Slept for a few hours on the bus, so the 7 hour journey wasn't that long.
My neck did appreciate the sleeping position though.

Got to Mackay at 4:30am. Was pitch black. The driver was telling us about the lorikeets while he was waiting for people.
Bus left at 5am and we waited for a bit to see the sun come up.

Once we'd seen that we went into the petrol station's restaurant and had a toastie each and some chips. Dragged that out for a while and then walked ...

Next we went for a walk at Sandfly Creek. This walk follows the creek up to where it joins the harbour. Michelle was happy as soon as we arrived a there was a Brahminy Kite sitting on the Wharf next ...

... the jeep. Those in the back however were lucky they didn't suffer whiplash. Funny that was never mentioned in the two hour safety briefing! Lake McKenzie is fresh water lake of what is the clearest water I've ever seen it was absolutely beautiful. It was a bizarre experience to be able to swim underwater with your eyes open without coming up with them stinging from salt or chlorine. I tried to take some pictures with the GoPro to show how clear it was but they don't do it ...

      Lot's of love/Groetjes,

      Mark and Shirley.
