... to Tulsa OK to visit a friend who went through grade school and high school with me. We were also in the same confirmation class at the 4th Presbyterian Church in Louisville. I mention this, because he had a picture of the class. He has lost some hair, but I look exactly the same!. Next weekend I will travel to Kansas City to visit my step-son and his wife. On the following Wednesday, i will return to Louisville and back to Ft. Knox the following day.
Manhattan, Kansas, United States jimashley.mnh... turbines that don't emit anything. I think they should paint them pretty colors and they'll look like pinwheels. We also saw a crop duster. The plane was really low and he flew like he'd been drinking.
Once we crossed into Colorado, all I did was look for mountains. As we came over every rise, I just know this is it. We'll see the Rockies. By the time we reached Limon, still no mountains but we did decide to change ...
... when there is hardly any little towns every 20 miles or so.
We arrived at the Super 8 in Manhattan, KS at 9:20pm, a little tired and weary from the drive but doing ok. Our room was great and there was no smell and the King bed was very good. The next morning there was a Monday U.S.A. Today newspaper under the door (this is a first) and we also could have waffles from the waffle maker in the breakfast room which was very good.
What a day....
... stay clear of the bike lane as the cyclists have little concern for meandering walkers. We got some great views of the Manhattan, Empire State Building, Manhattan Bridge, Brooklyn, Governors Island and the Statue of Liberty. It takes about an hour to walk the bridge after taking your pictures. We were famished by the time we reached Brooklyn. We wanted to try out the famous pizza place called Grimaldi's Pizzeria. We had heard that there ...
Manhattan, New York, United States jbadventure... had a good time. Thank you Linda for the last minute visit and ride to the grocery store. We arrived around 10:00pm at Susan's cousins, Stephen and Robin in Kansas. It was much to short a visit with Steven that night as he had to get up early the next morning for work. We were treated to a wonderful farm egg breakfast the next morning. As you can see ...
Riley, Kansas, United States johnsonfamily... with great memories. Memories influenced to some degree by my Dad's genetic make-up that required at least one plate of rice each day. Invariably, that meant we'd stop to survey the local Chinese restaurant in whatever backwater town we happened to be in at noon. I've experienced a spectrum of Chinese foods that included some mineral water won ton soup in Saratoga ...
Manhattan, New York, United States tantra... it was an absolutely flat horizon line, with a sunflower growing out of it! This is one of those rv parks with a rail line running right next to it - hope it's not too noisy all night long - although we may close our windows anyhow, as a storm is supposed to come through! Tomorrow, we'll be in Kansas all day again, driving to the western edge.
Paxico, Kansas, United States pykesonthegoI was in Manhattan, Kansas and I did see the wheat field swaying in the sun when I was a young man. I also liked piano music... A very long time ago. In a small town called "little apple" for it was also named Manhattan. They took me to a small mound of a hill and proudly told me "on a clear day, you can see all the way to Wichita". All I saw was a flat land golden with ripening ...
Manhattan, Kansas, United States ighosts... Then we made a mad dash to Independence, MO just in time to get to the Harry S. Truman National Historic Site. Paul thought he hit the mother load when the ranger -- who was very impressed with Paul's National Park stamp book -- told him that 6 blocks away there was the National Frontier Trails Center commemorating the origin of various trails West including the Santa Fe Trail and they had about 7 distinct stamps. We raced over and ...
Manhattan, Kansas, United States allobr... for those of you not in the know that's a very good price, later we found out that the pack he picked up had track and a power pack inside too, so good choice Josh!! After a quick trip to the local post office (they are so efficient) we tried in vain to find some postcards of Junction City, not much call for them we found, wonder why? The Library we thought might be able to help, no postcards there, but they did have an avid ...
