Smoky Mountain Railway

Dear Family and Friends,

Today we spent the day on a train excursion traveling on the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad, only 9 miles up the road from our hotel in Cherokee. Lasting 4.5 hours, the trip took us around 60 miles round ...

Friendly little city...

... their champagne. It was so cute!! I will have to remember that one! I also observed that many people eat like that every day. There are so many rich people in the world. If they would only share their wealth! I went to a couple different places around and met very nice people. I learned that South Carolina people are very friendly!

Now I am on my way home and ready to be back as always. I had a good time, but need to ...

Some Final Comments...

... spill into the streets wearing their American jeans-oh my god the vibrant youth. I wish we could have seen the cathederal that took 600 years to build but the Pope took priority. In Amsterdam I loved the Red Light DISTRICT IT IS A BEAUTIFUL PART OF TOWN WITH NARROW BRICK HOUSES DATING BACK TO THE1600S and I loved the emerging fashion designers studios next to the prostitutes-the designers can live and work in the spaces rent free for one year. What a deal-I love ...

South of the Border

5pm

South of the Border is this rediculous stop on I 95 just south of the South Carolina and North Carolina border. Hence the name. Anyway, they have huge dinasour statues, gift shops, and terrible food. I have been wanting to check it out all summer and I'm stoked I finally did. I bought a bag some nic nacs and a tank top. Tyler got a blanket.

We didn't take any pictures. It just wasn't that kind of a visit.

Cacky Town

Tyler and I are on our way to Maryland. We left melbourne this morning after catching the most recent episode of Entourage on demand. We deided to stay in Columbia, South Carolina because we both had never been there.

We have a room at a bed and breakfast in the heart of Five Points. We went out to grab some dinner at an Irish pub called Delaney's, walked around a bit, and eventually ...

A Waterfall, Meters, and Cookies

So after driving for 7 hours (which, by the way, still felt like less time than driving the treacherously flat 3.5 hour stretch of highway from Tampa to Coral Springs) we got to Columbia, South Carolina. We made reservations at the Inn at USC - a very nice and charming small hotel - and were offered a glass of champagne when we checked in.

We wanted to stretch our legs so we headed out to Finlay Park, which I had read ...

A long drive to South Carolina

Up at the crack of dawn today, and drove through to South Carolina. We stayed with friends from NH that recently moved down south. It was great for Gabi & Heather to see each other: All the girls had fun, and sounds like they are still awake chatting now (12:30 am). They'll be cranky when I get them up at 6:30 to head out!

Heading Home

... So, we were in bed by 10:00 p.m. That gave us an early start this morning. We were on the road by 8:30 a.m. If we drive straight thru, our ETA would be midnight. However, we will not drive straight thru. With the snow fat home, we will not be able to pull the camper and truck into the driveway. So, we will stop overnight and arrive early afternoon tomorrow. :-)
Columbia and soon to be home

... in 1800. Clarendon was once again split off in 1857, however, and another small part of Sumter County went to form Lee County in 1902. This part of the state began attracting English settlers from the lowcountry and from Virginia in the mid-eighteenth century. The area known as the High Hills of Santee, a narrow ridge along the Wateree River, was famous for its healthy climate and rich soil. Sumter County eventually became a leading agricultural and industrial region. During ...
