    While listening to my most favorite song at the moment (Turtle, by Alana Davis), I've realized my trip has BEGUN!!!! It wasn't real until now. I'm sitting at my seat on my way to JFK airport, waiting for my dinner, and I don't really have much to say except that my excitement is finally here. No worrying, no doubting, just excitement.     ... and he promoted WT Sherman to head of the Army of the Cumberland which was heading toward Atlanta, the jewel of the South.. (For info Grant concentrated his efforts on pursuing Lee as we say in Trail One).

    Sherman bedded down for the rest of the winter to restock and refresh his troops and in Early May began the campaign toward Atlanta. With arguable victories or defeats, there were battles at Resaca, Pickett's Mill, Dallas, Kennesaw ...

    ... fairly busy. We stopped in Coach, Under Armour, Puma, Burberry, Pottery Barn, and Restoration Hardware. Towards the end, we ate in the food courts at Main Street Dawgs. Carrie had a hot dog and curly fries and I had a bacon and cheese spuds (baked potato). We returned to the city to go to Oakland Cemetery. It was neat to look around. We saw lots of old statues, graves and mausoleums, we found the tombstone of Margaret Mitchell, author of Gone With ...

    ... hotel. It was really neat to see the plants, trees, and fountains in the center of downtown Atlanta. Also on the third floor is the heated pool, which was lovely until we got out and the wind hit us. We walked a few blocks to dinner at Gordon Biersch Brewery. I always love staying someplace that we can walk rather than drive. We returned to the hotel and went to bed. And slept. Extremely well ...
