A Winter Wonderland - in Florida!?
We drove the hour and a half from St. Marys, Georgia, into St. Augustine, Florida, oldest city in these United States. Our reservations were at Anastasia State Park, so we had to cross the Bridge of Lions (a beautiful drawbridge, which went up to allow several sailboats through, just as we got to it!) to Anastasia Island, East and South of downtown St. Augustine.
We got settled into our sandy, but private site, ...
A Day in Saint Augustine
The drive to Saint Augustine was a beautiful one. It was a gorgeous day warm and sunny! Yeah! We took A1A south which winds thru some really high end coastal towns, by some beautiful golf courses, amazing homes and beautiful views of the Atlantic. It was an awsome drive! Once there we started doing the touristy things stopping first at the ...
Making the most of Orlando (Part 2)
... methods and technological changes through the ages and ends up in space where it feels like you are floating backwards towards earth. Just brilliant. Already I am having a far bigger connection with Epcot than I did with the Magic Kingdom. Probably because I only waited 5 minutes to go on this journey. I then got to send a postcard from space to my email address. Then I went to The Seas where I boarded a clam and went in search of Nemo. That was great and also only ...
Visiting Daytona International Speedway on the way
Just enjoying the sunny day without running around so wildly. We had a look at the Speedway in Daytona. The museum was closed: so we were early on our way to St Augustine, though we did not hurry up. Just driving the convertible Mustang leisurely. North to St Augustine and ...
Camping Weekend
... and Hobie catmaran with friends. Neat, new experiences for all of us!
Later that day we had a pig roast in store thanks to friends cooking it through the afternoon - so a big potluck meal was enjoyed by all, with trick-or-treating following, and stories/jokes by the campfire.
Throughout the trip the girls enjoyed visiting friends' campsites (and riding one friend's pink motorscooter) - such a perfect camping experience, good way to start out our trip!

Historical Traveler Reviews Hampton Inn & Suites St. Augustine Vilano Beach Saint Augustine
The Greatest
We stayed at Hampton Inn Saint Augustine in Vilano Beach, FL in June of 2003. We were very pleased with our accomodations. The lobby is very unique, unlike any other Hampton Inn where we've stayed. You truly feel that you are in Florida when you enter this large lobby. Our room was very comfortable. The pool, with all the surrounding landscaping was beautiful. However, the highlight of this hotel would have to be Reggie, our host for the complimentary breakfast each morning. With his British accent and eagerness to be of help, he was an absolute delight. We were truly waited on hand and foot by Reggie. Will definitely stay here again.
Wonderful Experiece, Wonderful Hotel
We stayed at the Casa Del Mar for four days last week. It is a beautiful hotel. We booked on the net and crossed our fingers. It far surpassed our expectations and I highly recommend it to anyone visiting the St. Augustine area. As soon as you enter the lobby and take a walk around the grounds you feel like you have stepped into a more elegant, relaxed moment in time.
Our favorites at the hotel were the full, hot breakfast buffet which was laid out every morning at no charge; relaxing on the comfortable outdoor sofas and chairs which are set around burning outdoor fireplaces; and enjoying freshly popped popcorn, cookies and lemonade in the afternoons (also complimentary!).
Our son loved the hot tub and popcorn, our daughter the pool, gardens and "the friendly breakfast man". She was teary eyed saying goodbye to this english gentleman, who ensured all the guests were taken care of at breakfast each morning.
The beach is a two minute walk and St Augustine's historic attractions are just a few minutes drive away.
This is a hotel you will want to return to year after year.
The BEST Hampton I have stayed in.
And I have stayed in at least 15 different Hampton Inns. This is THE Place to Stay in or near St. Augustine, FL -- We stayed at this hotel in late January 2005. It was like a new Hilton. The place is NEW and IMMACULATE. The building is very classy; you cannot believe you are staying in a Hampton Inn. The furnishings in the room were amazing -- cherry(?) armoires, big TV, great bathroom, great outdoor jacuzzi and pool. Just steps from the beach and ocean. This Hampton definitely was a great value.
Great place with a great location
Stayed here for New Year's Eve and had a wonderful time. We paid a little more for a whirlpool tub suite and we were very happy with it. The breakfast was very good given that was included in the rate and the location was fabulous. Within walking distance to the beach. Hotel was clean, staff was excellent and we had a great time. Good value for the money.
Casa del Mar earned Clarion's special designation by combining luxury accommodations with B&B touches, such as triple-sheeted beds and complimentary breakfast omelets.
Top notch with a touch of class
My wife and I decided to take our son to historic St. Augustine for the weekend. We're from the Orlando area. We booked a room online for a one night stay on Saturday January 29th at the Hampton Inn Vilano which is only about 2 miles from the main historic area. One word of caution, if you book the Government rate, be prepared to show your official business orders as the desk clerk will ask and may not honor that rate if you cannot present your orders. This hotel is located within 100 yards of the beach. The beach in this location is unique in that you can drive on the beach and the 'sand' is comprised mostly of tiny broken sea shells with the consistency and appearance of wheat germ. There's a lot of whole sea shells there too if you like shell collecting. The hotel itself was gorgeous and new looking. I agree with a previous post about the rooms being larger that most other Hampton Inn rooms. We had a very clean room with a balcony, king size bed (with lots of pillows), TV, microwave, mini fridge, bar sink and cherry wood furnishings. In the morning, the lobby had three complimentary newspapers and an outstanding free hot breakfast that included everything you'd expect with a deluxe continental breakfast plus hot cheese omelets and sausage. This is one of the best Hampton Inns that I've had the pleasure to stay in and would gladly return again.
I won't go anywhere else now!
This is the best Hampton Inn I've every stayed in!The outside of the hotel has a spanish flair to it and the inside is very clean with beautiful wood and clean lines with tasteful floral arrangements. The staff is second to none and always greeted us with a smile. Our room was much larger than a standard guest room normally is and also included a microwave oven and fridge. Around 5pm, they set out warm cookies and popcorn with lemonade and 24 hours a day they offer delicious coffee with an assortment of flavored creams. My favorite part of the hotel is the courtyard in back with very comfortable lounge seating and during cool evenings they will turn on the fire in the gas fire pit. Breakfast was traditional Hampton Inn fare - maybe even even a little more than that. You do have to walk just a little ways to get to the beach, but the beach is perfect for families with little kids cause it has several tidal pool areas to play in. This is our second time here and we've already made reservations for a third visit. It's the best!
Beautiful hotel!
We just got back from this hotel. It is a beautiful hotel. Our room was very large and very clean. The staff was friendly, especially a gentleman named Reggie who was the host for their complimentary breakfast. The breakfast was extensive and had losts of variety: fresh fruit, yogurt, all sorts of biscuits and biscuit sandwiches, waffles, french toast, etc. One of the best I have seen. The grounds are immaculate.
The beach is just across a small street from the hotel--an easy walk. There were a lot of surfers out, which was fun to watch.
This seemed to be one of the best hotels in the Vilano Beach area.
I would recommend it and look forward to going back again.
Loved the Hampton Inn
The Hampton Inn was very nice and clean. The staff was really pleasant. When I come back to St. Augustine I will be staying here again. The room was large and VERY clean.
Beautiful Hotel!
After reading countless numbers of reviews I decided to stay at the Hampton Inn St. Augustine - Vilano Beach. It was a great, as described. The lobby, pool, room and breakfast were all wonderful. The staff was extremely nice and attentive. Like one of the other reviews said, it was a bit of a walk to the beach. I imagined it to be "on" the beach, but you have to walk through the parking lot to get there. Other than that it is one of the best hotels in St. Aug. When we drove around we realized that it was a good decision to stay there compared to some of the other shady hotels in St. Aug. I would love to stay there again.
