On the way to Kanab I stopped at Paria Canyon. I was the only person at the end of a 2 mile dirt road at the White House Springs campground. Again I was warned about flash floods and this time many warnings of snakes. I stayed on open ground and saw nothing more than a few lizards. A beautiful day. The pictures tell the story. The Clarion Victorian Charm Hotel was a wonderful and unique experience. A new hotel built to look like grandma's house. Complete with a four poster bed, a fireplace, a...

... an incredible sight. We also saw lots of deer and even a bald eagle soaring around the canyon (see video). After a few hours, we reluctantly caught the bus back down to the car. There are numerous walks and hikes to be done within the park and you could literally spend a whole week there and still not see all there is to see. It certainly was as beautiful as we had been promised. We returned back to our motel weary, but relaxed by the memories of beautiful Zion Canyon.

Kanab, Utah, United States jimandlauraWell, the plan was to get up and out early today, but that didn't quite happen. We eventually got out at about 10.45, complete with picnic, and headed towards Zion for our final visit.

We stopped off at the Harley Davidson shop in Hurricane, and then called in to look at some houses in Coral Canyon. Fantastic houses.......one day!

We drove up into Springdale and into Zion National Park. We stopped off by the Virgin River, which was pretty fast flowing. Lyn and the ...

Kanab, Utah, United States trip09... even caught sight of a couple of baby ground squirrels scampering around the trail. The Middle and Upper Emerald Pools were serene. Certainly not as awe inspiring or lush as a waterfall in Hawaii, but relaxing none the less, considering they occur in the high desert. There were several people when I arrived but everybody was quietly talking with friends or sitting and soaking up the morning sun. The swallowtails were out, flitting about the moist sand ...
Zion National Park, Utah, United States greggwatts...
Kanab, Utah, United States wrodar... River rather than glaciers. While carving the area - a landslide dammed the Virgin River creating a hug lake. Later the river cut thru the dam and the lake was released - but the sediment remains and there is a nice flat canyon bottom just like glacier-carved Yosemite. After the bus ride we hiked to Weeping Rock and then UP to Echo Canyon where the Canyon narrows quite a ...
Zion National Park, Utah, United States life-in-a-yurt... take a massive chunk out of Davids left leg. I think God gave us a little help in bandaging it up because (the doctors said later) that we did an amazing field-bandaging job. So we got it all tied up with gauz and dissinfectant and were making our way back down the river as quickly as we could to get David to a doctor. It was a very long and steep hike back up to where our car was and there were a bazillion unmarked human and animal-made ...
Zion National Park, Utah, United States skatripper... crunched up things. Its big, Really big. And it takes a bit of time, but there was not much left after a while. Just the thing to fill up the tanks for the short drive to Springdale. Cass, Zac and Mum were much more sensible and did not have the same sugar buzz that I did over the next hour. Drive through part of Zion National Park, my favourite. It always seems to get on the bad end of itineraries (one of the last parks) when there is not much time. At ...
Springdale, Utah, United States cdcass... the hikings were not long. We both like better the south rim, which look like the Negev, but in a larger scale. The north-rim earth is red and green, dotted with many green bushes, so it is not a desert down. It seems you don't see so far away as in the south: the view is much smaller. We are now in Kanab - a very pleasant place ($66). Good evening Rivka
