    I only had one day in NYC so got up early to make the most of it. A bus, the LIRW and the subway took me to Grand central. The terminal is stunning more like a well kept museum than a train station. I walked out on to 42nd street and headed west towards Time square.     Incidentally, the other swimmers were taken straight out to the centre. Was was Rich thinking??.

    10:45 The bridge finally opened after the Amtrak train went over it.
    The boat had to speed up to catch Bryan up. Glad they sent Rich off with all that feed.

    ... three rooms, all tiny - kitchen living and bedroom. Walked back past two solid blocks of little jewellers' shops, hopped on the train to Times Square where we stood in a queue for 1 1/2 hours to get tickets for Matilda for 30% off. Walked several blocks to see St Patrick's which is built of pale cream stone and has beautiful patterned spires. Inside the front was covered with scaffolding. Dinner at the Un Deux Trois cafe, a very nice quiche. ...
