Today we took a short flight to Bodo - about 25 mins, but much quicker than 2 days driving. We had good views of the Lofoten Archipelago from the small plane. ... less than 1 kilometer to the bottom of the glacier, even though there was a bus that could take us there. The walk was quite pleasant, not to say giving us some exercise we could really use. There was a lodge at the foot of the glacier, where we could get coffee, cakes, and snacks (part of the excursion). It had tables and a small shop. ... to very wet roads but dry weather. We followed a couple of swedes who were driving like turnips on the wet roads, passed them and carried on. The scenery continues to amaze us and the tunnels get deeper and colder. Some workmen were working in one of the tunnels and an old white haired man with whiskers motioned us to the front of the line and indicated stay there. ... of the classes I guess, a very big living area with kitchen, a couple of bedrooms, a large number of toilets and many small rooms... It's a big place in a very beautiful setting near the coastline.
So in summary, we drove about 4 hours up on the Lofoten (68 something degrees) to take the boat to the mainland and then drive 4 hours back down on the mainland to about 1 hour south of Bodo. A packed and filled day.
A real travel day going through various airport lounges.But back to the night before.Having returned from our trip across a frozen landscape we decided to cut the shackles and hit the two bars of Longyearbyen for a proper night out.So far on the trip we hadn't as yet cut loose and now was the time.As the beer here was only £4 a pint we were trying to make up for lost time.Half way through the evening we met a couple ...
