Australia, Melbourne we could live here

Aussies are legendary travelers. Many travel for years outside their home. One bartender we talked to from a small town in the South had traveled for 5 years, and she just came home to make enough money to leave for another 5. Not so in Melbourne. Many of the people here have not seen much more than their state. A few said to me, when you live in the best city in the world why do you have to leave? Andthe first part of that statement I might agree with. Melbourne is cosmopolitan, clean, has g...

Melbourne

Booked in to the Claremont Guesthouse within walking distance of the central city. A humidity hit us here which we hadn't suffered in Tasmania. We soon realised that Melbourne was trendy; trendier than Sydney...and our camping outfits just stuck out like sore thumbs ha ha. Chapel Street, although not central, was 'it' and the trendies (think Victoria Quarter, Leeds or gay Paris) were out in force. You see, you just can't dress like that out of a backpack. I'm sorry. We did look the part in th...

Arriving in Melbourne

On the plane I met a Australian guy named Shane, we were chatting away and joking about not being let into the country. Turns out he was once refused entry to the UK! He works in construction and has been working on the new post office building in Exeter, we figured that we've most probably seen each other before drinking in the Impy - such a small world! I arrived at 9.30pm local time and breased through customs before trying to find a hostel. Hotel Claremont had been recommended to me so I ...

Lazy Dayz

We deserved a lazy day today as in the morning we moved hostel, although it was supposedly a short bus ride we decided to save our money and walk. Yes, we walked 3 miles in blistering heat, up steep hills (through rivers, burrowed through tunnels, whilst being shot at!!) with 20kg on our backs!! So we decided to take it easy and not do anything, however people watching is a great way to pass the time, there are some odd balls in Oz! :)

Everybody needs good.....

.......NEIGHBOURS!!! Hehe! Today could possibly be the cheesiest day of our lives and i bet you're all jealous!! :) It was a good laugh, we got picked up by the official Neighbours bus, from the official Neighbours shop in the official Neighbours country!! Then whisked away to the studios for the 'Star Meet' and of course to keep us occupied for this short trip they played old episodes. (We saw when lassiters was burnt down, when Karl was marrying Izzy and Stu lost his eyesight! Also THE very...

Oh i do like to be beside the seaside......

.....in November!! HAHAHA!! Today we ventured down to St Kilda's beach. Initially looking like a fairly overcast day, but what did i tell you about Melbourne and it's seasons?? We got roasted...silly billy's! The weather did turn out to be beautiful, until 4ish then it rained then it was really sunny again about 6ish!! We headed straight for the beach when we got there, thinking that 5days in Oz and not even seeing one, was criminal. They had little market stalls all along the road, and a lit...

Bowled over by Melbourne

Today being our last full day in Melbourne, we wanted to make it count. So we went to all the sites we didn't get to see earlier in the week: The Royal Botanical Gardens This was a beautiful place, you could really get lost for hours, (we got lost for 2!!) The photos really don't do it justice. We walked round all the lakes, (im sure, most of them twice!) had our lunch by the bank, almost had a fight with a seagull, (i would've had my ass kicked!) then we moved on.... The Melbourne Cricket Go...

Onwards and Upwards!

This is officially our last day in Melbourne as we are headed up to Sydney tonight on a 15hr journey! Overrall - we LOVED Melbourne. The way there aren't too many people, but seemed to always be the same amount, whatever time of day it was. Everything was so easy, getting around, seeing everything and lots of free attractions! :) General observations: At the end of a stay in each town, we're gonna jot down, in a nut shell, what we observed just to give you all an idea on what its really like ...

Melbourne - letīs talk weather

Right, so I am British, letīs have a cup of tea and talk weather. Melbourneīs weather is bizarre! Our first day here we had 26c, high sun, lovely breeze and, well yes, just a perfect summers day. Yesterday we had 33c, hot, humid, terrific winds and a tropical rain and today it has been overcast, 16c and showers. Confused?! Well I am and desperately trying to fit in.... Yesterday we ended up going to St. Kilda, Melbournes seaside resort, which was nice but you all know what seaside towns are l...
