... first four riders. But all good fun nevertheless (although I have to say I was a bit tired last night).

Burra is a lovely rural town with a lot of historical buidings. Part of the town is set on the side of a hill with nice views of the surrounding contryside and the town itself. We will have a better look tomorrow on our rest day.

Yvonne wore the white jersey with distinction today, and handed it over tonight to Trevor (Canberra) for the ...
Burra, South Australia, Australia gatzby... had a tail wind!!! The exact time was Day 5 at 3:23pm and for the next 25 minutes we were averaging in the low 30s. Our speed dropped a bit from there but the riding today was the best it has been for the ride. Maybe our luck is changing.

The news from back at the hotel was that Andy and Phil had decided to take a day to recuperate. They were going to drive to Crystal Brook and join us from there. Daniel came with Neville in ...
Snowtown, South Australia, Australia mjc63... quarry which is famous around the world and it was used in Paliment House. Mintaro also had it's fair share of cottages and the pub called The Magpie and Stump built in 1850. The last port of call was a walk around the town of Clare before heading back to the caravan for a well earned rest and a glass of port. Well it's that time, so the four day alcoholics will blog again from the hopefully dry and sunny York Peninsula. Bye for now.
Auburn, South Australia, Australia serenitynow... headed back to the Adelaide Hills and went through Hahndorf, an old German style village, settled by a ship full of Lutherans, escaping persecution. Very quaint, but too close to the city & full of day-trippers (read - *******.) Sunday 5th April. Packed up a slightly damp camper (5mm, Adelaide's first rain in 6 months - drought busters strike again!!), & headed out to McLaren Vale for a wee spot of wine tasting. There were heaps of people out there, being a Sunday; all ...
Clare, SA, Australia lizmac... all. :-) It was certainly one of the most "interesting" new year's eves we have experienced so far. The day we arrived we were told there would be a BBQ and New Year's celebration at the caravan park, but only about 10 people attended and half of them were old enough to be our grandparents. After a few drinks we all became friends for life and had a nice time anyway. :-) We still got nicely ******, but the next morning we woke up at around 9 and were ...
Clare, South Australia, Australia aguasFinaly got access to email and power so I will try to update as much as I can. We left Adelaide around 2:00 in the afternoon. It took about an hour to get into North Adelaide in time for school to be let out and for construction. I was driving and survived stop and go traffic really quite well. It was a relief to leave the City. Our first stop was in ...
Clare, South Australia, Australia rlholthof... the shading from of the steep valley slopes, hence very cool climate styles. They produce a very interesting range of wines, from Riesling, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon to Mataro, Primitivo, Tampranillo. Wines are unique, and not available in Singapore yet. They have been talking to some potential distirbutors so hope it all turns out and we see their wineson the shelfs here soon. Very unique vineyard, picturesque setting ...
Clare, Australia evanngThere are two stories to be told about the end of my tour in the Clare Valley. One is the story of a burgeoning love affair put on hold, as it were; the other of a long-term relationship coming to a dramatic end. I will start with the former, because it's the one I am most happy to tell. Melbourne may have been calling but that city will have to wait. I write these words from South Korea, where I've been for the past few weeks. Back in the ROK, 14 months after I left. Thought ...
Adelaide, Australia darkstar... something-year-old tourist and are pleased to find I'm neither. Within minutes of arrival at the winery I'm folding boxes for the bottling line and making friends amoung the extra hands brought in for the job. For vintage the crew will be pared down to just four men, including Ben Jeanneret and myself. Sharing the joy of cleaning the press, pump overs and crushing are the other "cellar rats" on this vintage's crew, Benny V and Craig, a boyhood friend of Ben's ...
Clare Valley, Australia darkstar... the moment are both foreign and watch BORING TV. I was watching with them 1 night (channel abc) and I was dozing off, thinking I could never stay alive to watch that educational garbage when there was good trashy American shows on. Then the German guy reached for the remote and I held my breath in hope and relief........and he changed it to SBS!!!!! So I could watch the dusty antics of some Arabs and their flies and subtitles. Hee hee!!!!!
