... Another of the French pulled out last night. He was barely able to move. So many are simply not prepared for the endurance required for long distance walking. You need to be more than averagely fit, able to walk on many different surfaces, and go long distances several days in a row. Tomorrow we have a 33.4km day, followed by two 20+km days and then get one short under 20km, then we have a long bank of heavy distances in a row.

... makes sense! Soon on our way and knew we had 11km of bitumen to start! You all know my normal response, but yesterday I had a brain ****.

Before we left home I had done significant amounts of bitumen walking in prep for this Camino knowing we had a lot of road to cover, so I was frustrated that my efforts failed - it made no difference to walking here on this hard stuff. Get off the bitumen all the way to Riolobos. Now this is the new diversion from the original VDLP because some farmer decided despite government pressure to not allow us onto his ...

Could hear rain in the night but only copped a couple of light bits of rain today, more than a drizzle but defo not a shower. Somehow the heating got turned on in the night, and while not highly warm it was better than the bone chill of last night. It meant my face washer was not wringing wet to stuff in my pack but sadly Hedleys shoes which weren't near the heater bombed out - not that it mattered, they were soon soaked again in the wet grass on the goat track.

Another lazy start to the day but.......... John decided to investigate a noise in the front wheel and discovered that we had a C.V. joint problem. A trip to Madrid after all, but try to talk to someone first. Meanwhile Marilyn went to the vet, as the dog Tessa had a walking problem and seemed in considerable pain. We tried more calls and internet research and got nowhere so ...
