I seriously think this stuff only happens to me.

I do recognize that I have a sort of handicap in Spain. I'm vegetarian, and that is a personal choice. So I don't have much room to whine about being hungry and not finding food to eat, but I'm also the baby of 6 kids, so those whining rights play trump.

Yesterday I had dinner at a Chinese place. Yes, I'm still in Spain. And it was pretty decent. Their tomato soup was rather unique -- egg drop soup with chopped tomatoes. Better than it sounds. Then this morning I had a ...

You South American folks are good people.

... nor American helped me.

Rather than just going back to the train station and sitting there for four hours, I stopped in a little Argentinian restaurant. Knowing Gaby, I was well versed in the fact that I should check the menu before sitting down. The Argentinians (and Uruguayans, who really fed Argentina everything their famous for, right Gaby?) are big meat eaters. But, they had pasta on the menu. Hurray.

The waiter was an older guy that found it amusing ...

a day of driving...

... the water. Dirty and not one bit interesting. We could not wait to get out of there. there was probably another area that may have been nicer, but we didn't see it. We drove straight to Almeria and which has an old city and a new city. The new city is also very overdeveloped. Huge high rise apartments and hotels. the old city has a bit more charm and this is where the fort is located. We hiked up to the entrance only to discover it's closed on mondays. Bummer! It ...

Day 46: Death of the innocent goat.

... someone had been waiting behind a rock near us. I couldnt have left faster if i tried. Very stressful moment.

So we cycled to the other side of Almeria but our journey was cut short due to a coastal windy road with no lights. We had no choice but to sleep where we were. which happened to be up some steps near a light house in the view of hookers. Seriously no other choice. Also, where we slept the happened to be 1cm by 1 inch orange woodlice crawling everywhere. Lovely.

Back to San Jose

Returned to San Jose. Next day drove around to the town of Cabo de Gata, saw the salt-pans, went up the the "Cape", saw the incredible beach of Cabo de Gata, had great lunch there, then went around to the beach at Monsul. Eventually decided I HAD to leave!!

Trip to Mini-Hollywood

... me €2.50 to park, I then paid an exorbitant €19 entry, and since it was getting on went and had an OK self-service meal - also over-priced. There wasn't much to see; a museum of old cinema projectors, old buildings, and a zoo. The latter was rather curious. I stayed around for the "shoot-em-up" show. About all that was worth it in an overpriced trip. As for the countryside, I was underwhelmed as it was nothing like as spectacular as the Copper Canyon in Mexico.

Not so hot and sunny Mediterranean

... to this little town, so we ducked into the little cafe and had tapas and wine to wait out the oncoming storm. Then the hail came and we thought our day was over, but it only lasted about a hour...very weird. (We later found out that it was warmer in London and back in the U.S., go figure) So far our experience with the rain in Spain has been interesting, nothing like Washington...the rain comes fast, everyone hides under the eves of the ...

Ascent of Alcazaba 'The Fortress' (3375m)

... already sat at the summit. The views from here were superb. Mulhacén was revealed in its glory, a pinnacle above its surroundings with its north face providing an impressive backdrop for photos. If only my camera batteries hadnt died! I was exhausted but pleased beyond measure to have reached the summit- I hadnt had to work so hard for a top before. I knew that I had further and greater challenges ahead of me, this is what I wanted from life at any rate, but having broken ...
