Having spent nearly half a year living in Sydney I thought it was about time I should be moving onto pastures new, visiting more of this huge country. I spent my last day visiting my cousin Saraj and his family. It's been great spending time with him and his children. The last time we met, before I came to Australia, I was just seven years old so there has been a lot of catching up to do. This morning Kylie and Mat took me out for a farewell breakfast at the "Common Ground" cafe in Balmain. I...
Canberra, ACT, Australia jawadArrived in Canberra at around 4:30pm on Saturday afternoon and settled into the City Walk Hotel. Don't be fooled by the name, it's really just a hostel, but is in a good location, right in the city centre, and above an Irish Pub. So after a quick walk around the immediate area, and a nice meal at an Italian restaurant we decided to check out the pub. It was quite busy as a lot of people had been to the races during the day, so there were a lot of ladies in posh frocks and stupidly big hats. A...
Canberra, ACT, Australia shonandgraham... is not an ugly nation when it comes to the fairer sex. I don't remember them being this good looking, Maybe there's just more young people about, maybe it's just cause I'm situated in the historic centre, but they are so striking it sometimes makes you stop, unable to do anything else but wonder how anyone could have the kind of features you just saw and be real. Perhaps if I spoke more Russian my illusions would be shattered, but I suspect not.
Took the camera out on ...
I thought I should write a little postscript now that we are home and have had one night in our own bed. It was quite strange to come home after 7 weeks overseas and especially to find that Canberra has finally had a wet spring and the garden has gone completely crazy - we have grass about half a metre high! It is wonderful to see the transformation of Canberra after so many years of drought although my hay ...
Canberra, Australian Capital Territory, Australia falkewindHey Guys,
OK so here I am on Monday morning at 12.33am sitting up, on the couch surfing website. Looking for potential couches so I can save a bit of money on my travels which would mean I could spend some time in Canada on my treck back to Canberra, oh how I don't want to go back.
I'm freaking out a little bit because this is my first time away from home alone and ...
... visited the Bay of Martyr's, Groto, London Bridge, The Arch, Loch Ad Gorge and the 12 Apostles. We spend an evening at Apollo Bay Caravan Park and continued our way East the following morning. We were fortunate to have the opportunity to meet up with Margo and Ross Davey -- our long lost friends from the Reef Encounter. We spent a lovely evening with them at their home in Angelsea and enjoyed an amazing dinner, lots of ...
Canberra, Australian Capital Territory, Australia 3vagabonds... t a lot to see in there - obviously most places are off limits - however you are allowed to wonder around alone, which we did. We also went into to watch Prime Ministers Question Time. It really was one of the most surreal things I have witnessed. For a start, it was weird watching all these people we recognised (from newspapers and TV news) but didn't have a clue as to what they did. Secondly, it's quite scary just how childlike the leaders ...
Canberra, Australian Capital Territory, Australia darrenstravels... time. Indeed, we found people particularly nice in Canberra. First, while waiting for the bus to Canberra from a tiny town called Yass Junction (the first part of the trip was by train, and I felt like a little kid when I saw kangaroos go bounding by--they have quite a vertical jump and easily leaped over four foot-high fences), Paul got to talking with this older gentleman from Canberra who was a wealth of information. From him, we learned that ...
Canberra, Australian Capital Territory, Australia moppet77... and Shark attacks! We went to a park with Sarah and her brother and parents and cooked up a barbeque, made for a great relaxing afternoon. Over the next few days we went to the old Lanyon Homestead, an early colonial settlement outside of Canberra, Parliament House, Old Parliament House and the museums. Parliament house was interesting and they have a water feature in a ground floor lobby which runs in such a way that if the ...
Canberra, Australian Capital Territory, Australia lesandsteve... I sat outside while Abby goes into get our tickets. There is a third scenic skyway, a cable condola suspended high over the Katoomba falls gorge. On the way over a door in the floor slides open to reveal a glass bottom. We decided to skip that one. Two were enough. She comes out as says, "she got a deal for all three." I say, "I thought we were only going to do two?", she says, "I know, but it probably won't be that bad". So off we go to the suspended Gondola. It was this large oval ...
