    Easy Location, Comfortable Stay

The hotel is right next to the airport, which makes it extremely convenient after a long set of flights. Though we've only just arrived, the reception staff was friendly and helpful, we have vouchers for breakfast, there's free wifi in the rooms, and the bed is comfortable. Beyond that, the room is clean and modern.

Today (or the sequence of two days, really, given the international date line) we flew from Detroit to Taipei (or actually just outside Taipei, to where the international airport is). Tomorrow we get on the high-speed rail and head for Tainan.

The flights were blissfully (okay, maybe not blissfully) non-eventful. Neither of us got much …

We walked around an area that was rebuilt as a touristy historical ground to show what old Taiwan homes used to look like. There were lots of unique art exhibits using recycled materials around and educational videos playing in some of the buildings. We spent a good while walking around until we could ...

... facts about the areas. They also had a lot of fancy jewelry stands and beverage stops. Our plan then was to head down to the food court on the bottom floor (it was huge! such a massive selection of different types of food) to have some Japanese styled grill food because Alexandra loved it. Unbeknownst to us, the food court shut at 9:30, and we sauntered on down around 9:45! Bad news, but who was there to save us?! Mo! Mo's Burger to the rescue! So that concluded our romantic ...

... conclude Day 1 with another Murphy's Law tidbit... Before I left, I ordered a 60 box of cochlear implant batteries as a back up to my rechargables as they are easier to just carry around, especially if power is out or spotty and such. Cochlear implant batteries just suck energy like nothing else and my rechargables last about 6 hrs. and new fresh non-rechargables can last perhaps 12 hrs. before I hear the 5 beep sound that they ...
