... in calories between a bucket-o-latte & cheesy hamburger as compared to a sea-veg & seal sushi roll with green tea. An apple a day is one area where our cultures seem to coincide. We found an enormous fuji apple in the supermarket to share for lunch (seemed more ethical than the seal...) Whilst walking around exploring we finally decided to have some Japanese ice-cream. They love their ice-cream, especially soft-serve (don't tell me it's got seal-fat in it ...

Random spots in the north

*just in case you missed it, I completed the 4-26 adventure... read that first! After taking one last bath, we grabbed a quick Viking breakfast, then headed back on to the bus. We hit Towada City, which had beautiful sculptures on a cherry tree lined street. It was cold, but not actively snowing, so we did a quick run down the street and back on the bus. The bronze horse sculptures are really delicately ...

Hirosaki & Aomori

... Hirosaki castle is surrounded by 2 moats, and rather petite to be considered a "castle" by western terms. One thing is very true about this site though... it is absolutely, unbelievably beautiful during hanamei. By the time we made it to the second moat, the mist had turned to a light rain. When we queued up to go inside the castle, the rain had given up on the "light" bit. Inside the castle were a few interesting cases of artifacts, but it was the ...

... completely destroyed during WW2. New modern buildings can be seen. We went in the mountains in the south of Aomori, Hakkoda-San. But as the weather was not really good we spent our time in a big Onsen resort with green-blue water. The bath there is so big that 1000 people could fit in ! Anyway, we appreciated the relaxing days and delicious food there!

... onsen (sources chaudes).

Japan!

... in a festival with a prince, riding on an elephant in Thailand and a tiger somewhere in the northern part of Japan. I remember taking camping trips with other kids all around the country and taking a Japanese dancing class with my mother to be in festivals. Years later I took a month long trip over to Japan with a group of Girl Scouts. I was able to experience everything I had again and it ...

Happy in Hach! :)

... I somehow picked natto sushi from the selection, which is fermented soy bean. OY. Bar did not like it very much at all, and is probably not having it ever again. OY. We made our own crepes and cotton candy for dessert. More shopping on Day 3. This time we were at Lapia shopping centre. More EngRish shirts! Lunch at Mos Burger ("Mountain Ocean Sunshine ... 'cause that's all you need for a good burger"); none of tried the ...

Graduation Tour

... Tokyo, but only Daiei had a driver's license and drove all the way. It is one of the biggest festivals of Japan. The floats and rhythmic dancers called "haneto" were impressive. However, we were so stupid that we had not reserved a hotel. As a result, we slept outside without a tent and blankets, although it was still cold in the summer of Aomori.

On the next morning, we visited Mt. Osore ...
