... Alongside it was the Vilnius flag, with St. Christopher on, the Saint of Vilnius and also the Saint of Travel.

Later on, the tour took us to a different country all together! A small area in Vilnius was once crime ridden. A very poor and dangerous area. Then, a group of artists moved to Vilnius and brought properties there. To improve the situation, they set up a 'country' called the Republic of Uzupis, which translates to mean ' the other side of the ...

Across the bridge was Uzupis, a weird little neighbourhood of Vilnius that has declared "independence" from Lithuania as a sort of hippie artist community, with its own constitution, flag, currency, even president. We also walked over to Uzupis, which is really only a five minute walk if you know where you're going (and not the multi-hour trek we undertook...) Martina asked us "What do you need to become a country?" and ...

Mean Streets

... at maps and trying to figure out where I'm going.

The vibes of different hostels varies dramatically, too. Some are unapologetic 'party hostels'. Don't figure on getting any sleep here. Others are quiet to the point of silence. I don't have a problem with this. Over the last few months, with a rare exception being the night I arrived in Budapest, I've increasingly found I just want to be left alone to sit and read or relax.

In summary, I can think of a ...
