... Angel Fish fishcakes. Both delicious.
The Kudu came with a very local caponata sauce and was great. For mains i had slow roasted local duck with a touch of aniseed and on celriac mash. Bloody marvelous. We had a bottle of the local '99 Nedderberg Pinotage with the mains and it was excellent. Never had a SA Pinotage before. Much bigger wine than the ordinary pinot noir's with excellent fruit and nice soft aged tannins and vanillas from the oak. Anyway place ...
Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa artmareesafari... quick glimpse of the city from there and it's been so darn cloudy that it's now or never. Strange to think that it's summer back home when it's early autumn here. Miss you all and will write again soon. My creative juices aren't flowing right now so this is all I've got! ~ s. (for s. & d.) xxoo PS - I will never truly enjoy driving with Dan (DWD) - you'd think the manual car and driving on the wrong side (both ...
Cape Town, South Africa sirferman... out with them towards the end. I can tell they love it when we come, and they love the boys especially which is pretty fun. I am really glad I'm doing it and I look forward to doing it every week for the rest of the semester. It has been kind of hard to motivate myself to do work here, although I do enjoy most of my classes. My religion class is really cool, and Afrikaans is pretty awesome. I'm hoping to be able to have a conversation pretty well ...
Cape Town, South Africa johannaksf... is only one cable here from North America. In 2 days our family used up 1/2 of Darryl's monthly allottment! So, while you can send and receive emails and surf the internet, there is no downloading/uploading except at a very hefty price. It's amazing how our family is so used to not giving a thought to downloading podcasts, watching YouTube videos, uploading photos - we have to keep remembering to limit this activity or Darryl will have a coniption when he gets the bill!
Cape Town, South Africa hamiltonfamily... 10:30 this morning. We then had a lovely lunch in the very pretty town, had some more wine, saw some cheetahs in a sanctuary right next to the vineyard (only in Africa!) and then I went home.

This is the first night in 15 days where I've had a night to myself since the group left on a sunset cruise.

Sometimes being alone and doing nothing is the best luxury one could have.

If you have actually read through this entire post, good on ya, I'm impressed!
Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa travelbug15... friendly and flexible guy, born in Mossel Bay on the Graden Route, who really knew his stuff. In addition to seeing the beautiful scenery and towns along the route, the tour took us to a winery, an ostrich farm, where we could feed and ride the birds, a really interesting cave system, sand-boarding and a game ranch, where we saw lions, giraffe and springbok close up before having a huge buffet dinner. The highlight of the trip had to be the chance to jump the world's ...
Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa pauljlee... race, culture, and identity mostly in South Africa. The professor admitted that the course title is unclear--those three words mean everything and nothing at the same time or are at least difficult to define. With only one lecture/seminar (it meets once a week), the professor has already mentioned the Khoisan--I love it when my courses (especially from different departments) make connections with each other. This course has no exam, but will require a 4,000-6 ...
Cape Town, South Africa mcline999... set foot on dry land again, but we had some great pictures of Table mountain!! We spent the rest of the day at the V&A Waterfront, which feels more like Denmark than S. Africa! Today we too the cable car up Table Mountain. The views from the top were amazing, you could see for miles and the whole area is surrounded by mountains. The sun was out, and everyone commented on how pale I am and how I'll burn - which I took great offense to as I am browner now than I ...
Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa emyjane... was getting to watch the Ironman which took place at the beachfront in PE. For those of you who don't know, an Ironman involves a 3.8km swim (in the sea with sharks and ripper currents), a 180km bike ride and finally a 42km run (a marathon), it is almost a mind boggling feat of endurance and watching the 1600 atheletes plunnging into the surf was pretty awesome. The five of us who got up at 6 am to watch the start at 7 ...
Cape Town, South Africa jamesedmondson... a hysterical argentinian woman, a missing bundle of $1000, a trip to the police station, gaolbird driver and four very attractive medical students from London. Try and make up your own story out of that! My aunt and uncle arrived from London on 28th December for their annual visit to CT and were kind enough to ferry me around from gorgeous restaurant to beautiful vineyard and back again. New Year's Eve was a fairly tame affair with a very pleasant ...
