Arctic Circle: Full Steam Ahead

... sun shines 24 hours a day on June 21. The morning was gorgeous with the sun just coming up to the east and with glaciers coming nearly down to the water. The scene included ountains and islands galore with the rather obvious globe facing from the west. It was akin to having a religious experience.

For the next six days, the coastal express will plow through the North Atlantic and Barents Sea, all while being above the Arctic ...

... some areas in more detail. Deck 6 provided an opportunity to circumnavigate the ship although there was no large open deck space here. At the suggestion of another announcement many guests went to see a heritage-listed isolated light house although precipitation ruined the view. Steve and I were initially out in the elements at the bow on deck 6, being assaulted by the weather until we quit when it became harder to see the lighthouse even though we were getting closer to it! Finally, an update!

I guess I must apologize once again for leaving so much time between entries. Things continue to be so busy here that I rarely have time to think about updating and before I know it all of my stories and experiences have piled up so I will have to write a short novel to tell you about all of them. Since I last wrote I have been on 3 major trips. The time Iæve spent here between the trips has not been ...

Starting off with a bang

... paced. I don't think it will require much work at all. The History class doesn't start until late September, and then goes until the end of the semester, meeting Mondays and Thursday. The Adventure class is completely different. It started this week with a lot of field trips, which I will explain in a moment, and then for the next few weeks we will having a few meetings which have yet to be scheduled before writing an essay due in mid-September which is our final for ...

Lofoten I - Bodø

Northern Norway Excursion... to Arctic and back

... Everything was still completely intact from the mid 1800's. We then went to a boat builders place where he told us about wooden boats and some of the other projects he's been doing. We then went to our cabins for the night... The night before everyone got about an hour or so of sleep, so after dinner, everyone went to bed... like 9pm. We did have to get up early on Saturday though.. I got over 9 hours of sleep. So that was a ...

... S. which is so funny because the distance is so far that it's interesting to see how similar life was for so many people around the world. We also learned about old fishing boats and the different styles that were built and we also learned the art of timber log house building. It was very interesting. Finally our tours were over and we were taken to our new cabins (which again, were made ...

... going on. After the kids got in from boating we went up to the cabin and decided that there was a water fall we needed to check out. From the window of our cabin we could see this lovely waterfall that didn't look too far away so a few of us went to check it out. Upon arrival, all but two of us went climbing up the waterfall and full speed (don't worry mom, I wasn't one of them!) and they looked out over the whole island. It was so ...

On top of the world (or pretty darn close)

... for dear life, agreed to take the picture. Taking advantage of a momentary lull, we ran for the monument, half-dragging Alec. We haven't downloaded from the camera yet, but we hope to have the result posted soon. (Jack) As we walked to the stone globe, On the way back we stopped at a Sami settlement and Dad bought reindeer skin and fur (don't worry, animal cruelty has been informed) and we saw a real Sami man with his reindeer.
