Metz!

This is an incredible place...but I don't have any pictures... when I got there my camera stopped working :( But I really think it was a blessing because I just saw everything and didn't worry about getting pictures of everything for later, I just saw and took it all in. It was a much needed get-away and it really blew me away, especially the Cathedral! Mass there was unbelievable...and I have a new-found love of French...and their pastries :)

Our Day in the Country

... hike and we took the dogs with us. It was very nice. It was a small cascade and it was very quiet and peaceful there. She said in the summertime it is very crowded. I imagine it would be like the waterfalls in North Carolina in the summer.

We got back home and I started working on uploading pictures. I had 5 days to catch up on. We chatted with Karyn while she prepared a dinner of pasta with broccoli ...

City in the trees

Of course I needed to visit Luxembourg, hiding away there between France, Germany and Belgium. It is the fifith smallest country in the world. It is very hilly and surrounded by trees. The hostel is down at the bottom of a cliff, yay! The city of course is quite small, but it is surrounded by ruins and forest which makes it quite a unique city in amongst the hustle and crowds of all the other major cities. The people there speak French and their own language, Luxembourgish I suppose.

Luxembourg City deserves another day

Our second day in Luxembourg City started off with a visit to Cathedrale Notre Dame. Seems like a lot of cities have a church with this name. Neither Mila or I are very religious but for some odd reason we love walking into churches. Old churches. The older the better. Especially when it's empty. I once walked into a church that was completely empty. It had gothic architecture and was lit only by candles. Only a few rays of sunlight was able to peek through the stained glass ...

Luxembourg, the little country that could.

... a really awesome bar we hung out for a fair bit. Its named Colours, for the next time your in Luxembourg! Yes I am joking, who is crazy enough to go to Luxembourg. The Not So Fun: We were told they had no tax, not entirely true but it was quite low. Too bad Luxembourg has the second highest per capita income in the world, so it wasn't cheap regardless.

French food, but not French quality

Breakfast was a lot like the one at the Stayokay in Amsterdam, but with less selection of bread, meats, and cheeses. I mixed it up by making a sandwich, but it was no better. As a bonus, they had some pears and bananas (I stole one for the road), and the pineapple juice was a nice touch. Having some time before the train to Luxembourg, I picked up some food at the station - water, fruit salad, and bread baked with ...

Country and City of Banks

Our family travelled to Luxembourg for a week for a work conference. Was it just me or was there a bank on every corner? I think the trip was quite expensive for my parents.
Assuming it was because there are so many languages spoken in ...

Paris to Luxembourg

... Casemates - tunnels and chambers dug to further fortify Luxembourg city. Saw Notre Dame church and walked along the park at the bottom of the valley where we found an old church built into the side of the hill. Luxembourg is a beautiful medieval valley.
