A class act
from A TripAdvisor User on 2005-06-24
We stayed at the City Hilton twice: June 4 and 16. The first time we stayed there, June 4, we were using points from the Hilton Honor's program. For €60 additional, we upgraded to the Executive floor for the wonderful drinks and snacks. Excellent views of the city can be had from this level, but you can also elect to have a more private area if you wish from a semi-enclosed room. Most of the bedrooms have been renovated and are very smart, even if a bit small. Coffee-making facilities are the familiar benchmark of an American chain and can be welcome for a quick hot beverage. On the other hand, the minibar warns that even the slightest movement of the contents will register with the desk and you may be charged. So be very careful if you wish to store anything. This can still be done but you will have to be creative.
Because of the proximity to the S-8 line (and to the airport), we decided to stay here June 16 the night before our flight home. Every room seemed to have been taken for a week's conference. However, one of the desk personnel arranged for one night at a rather high rate--no breakfast. We decided to splurge and take it anyway (thank you, Sophia!). When I asked the concierge if he could call the other hotel to cancel the reservation, Francesco said I should send a fax. I then explained that I did not have access to a fax machine and could not speak German and handed him a few euros. He would handle the call immediately. I was going to give him a tip anyway, but now I feel that service must be bought.
There are many reasons why so many do stay here. The proximity to the S-Bahn, the professionalism of many of its employees, and the smartness of the accommodations. Now if only one of the staff at the concierge desk could see service as part of his job description....
Wonderful location, first class hotel, terrific and helpful staff
from A TripAdvisor User on 2005-06-13
I was traveling in a party of 5 last month on our way to Europe for a vacation. There were some terrible travel mix-ups and we ended up separated (and very anxious!) in a foreign land. It was decided the Hilton would be our spur-of-the-moment meeting destination, although we didn't technically have reservations there until the end of our trip, a week later. Their wonderful location, directly above the train station, was an immense relief for tired travelers! We explained our situation upon arrival, and the concierge went beyond the call of duty to make us comfortable and ease our worries about our lost family members. They called the airport hourly for updates, gave us umbrellas so we could venture out on the town while we waited, held our bags, and offered us last minute rooms for that night once we were reunited. The hotel in and of itself was beautiful...the food at the lobby café was wonderful, the atmosphere was welcoming, classy, comfortable, and bustling, and I just can't say enough good about the staff. We couldn't have gotten through the day without their help!
When we did loop back to Munich, we enjoyed our stay at the Hilton City Center very much. The rooms were large and clean and the location to major tourist destinations couldn't have been better.
Without exaggeration, it was the nicest hotel we stayed at while we were in Europe. I'd go back in a minute.
An average business class hotel
from V0yager on 2005-04-14
The Munich city Hilton is your usual type or large, impersonal, business class hotel. The location is handy for the train station but it's a little bit outside the actual city centre itself which means you have to catch a train to the centre rather than just walking. (It's approx 2 to 3 minutes on the train).
The rooms are large and comfortable, although mine could have done with a bit of updating. No real complaints though.
The staff are efficient and breakfast was OK.
All in all an average hotel.
Nice hotel
from KyleWeeks on 2005-03-18
I enjoyed my stay very much. The location is good. Very close to lots of attractions and the subway.
Room are big by European standards. Nice rooms, but not very "European" (i.e., they are pretty standard, US business-style).
Very Convenient
from zetaetadg on 2004-12-15
My husband and I stay at the Munich City Hilton from Dec 1 to Dec 6 and enjoyed a very nice stay. The hotel is very convenient to everything that we wanted to see. My husband was there on business (I was tagging along) and because the Rosenheimer Platz S-Bahn station is directly below the hotel we were both able to quickly go exactly where we needed to. There is also the Motorama shopping arcade below the hotel which was very convenient for snacks and coffee.
The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful, even getting us to the Munich hospital when my husband became ill.
The only issue that I have is that the pillows on the bed are terrible. I sleep on my side and my right ear hurt badly by the time that we left.
Overall, I give this hotel high marks for their service, food and convenience.
If we are ever in Munich again, I would stay here if the rate were reasonable.
Great Place

We spent two days there and were upgraded to the Executive Floor as Gold Hilton Honnors members. The room was excellent and roomy. The decor was modern and appeared to be new. Beds were very comfortable and the bathroom spacious and well appointed.
Service on the Concierge floor was outstanding and extremely helpful. The free breakfast, snacks, and drinks were more than could be expected. The staff was exemplary and willing to help with any request.
The location above the S-Bahn station made for quick travel to any site in Munich although it was only a short wlak to the Marienplatz shopping area.
An excellent place to stay and highly recommended.
An Overpriced disappointment
from bgold7a on 2004-10-20
An overpriced motel, although in a very good location. Beds, pillows, blankets, showers are no better than what you'd get in a typical US motel. Hi-Speed web access is horribly overcharged at 20 euros for 24 hours. Rooms are tiny, even by European standards. Even for 340 euros, you can end up one floor over a noisy street. Ask for top floor or deluxe floor. There are many better choices in Munich.

If you want the convenience of being close to all attractions, than this is the place. Extremely helpful staff, complete with bell and concierge service. You may purchase tour tickets with hotel pickup at the concierge desk. They will also map out areas you might want to visit by foot. Munich transportation tickets are also available from the concierge, with an all day(date you purchase ticket till 6 AM next morning) partner ticket(2-5 persons travel on same ticket) available for 8 Euro in town and 16 euro for all other areas in the metro Munich area. This allows you to travel with unlimited access on all buses trains and subways in the area shown on the map. This is perhaps the most convenient hotel from the airport, with the train stopping underneath hotel. The rooms are very comfortable and attractive. The executive lounge is on the 5th floor for access to those who paid the rate or all Hilton Gold and Platinum members. We recieved this access without asking at checkin, even though we were staying on Hilton award vouchers. There is also an outside balcony that looks down Rosenhiemer Strasse towards Marienplatz. There is an American style full buffet, with a wait staff that seems eager to please(they like to practise their English with you).Good bar and restaurant. This is a great hotel in a great area of town to begin and end the day.
Munich city hilton - great location!
from aibling on 2004-06-28
We stay consistently at the Munich City Hilton because of a combination of comfort and location. The rooms are fine, although due for a facelift, and clean. The hotel facilities are great, with a coffee shop in the lobby for late morning/early afternoon, a buffet breakfast that is outstanding, served in an extremely well-done Bavarian stube atmosphere. That same restaurant offers good dinners, and Lowenbrau on tap. Many concert goers (see location next) dine here. Underground hotel parking is a great place to stash the rental car.
Location is excellent, as it is on the Gasteig, near the concert hall, the Deutsches Museum and some great local restaurants. Shopping center across the street takes care of goodies for the room. You can access the subway from an elevator in the hotel lobby, and be downtown at the Marienplatz in a matter of minutes. With this access, we prefer the City Hilton to the downtown hotels. Parking downtown is tough, and the pedestrian zone makes it tougher to get close, so the subway opportunity makes sense.
When you're ready to pull out the rental car and head south into the Alps. the route to the Autobahn is close. If you're going to the airport, you can start at the lobby elevator to subway to train, and be there in 30 minutes. Have fun.
Good location, comfortable accomodation & great service

I stayed at the Munich City Hilton May 7-9, 2004. We were in town to pickup a BMW. Hotel is located in a safe area. Very easy to find. We parked the car in covered parking garage, located under the hotel. Cost was 14 Euros/night. Upon entrance into the lobby, I could see this was a very nice 4 star hotel. The front desk staff was very nice. Everytime we needed something, they were quick to accomodate. We were staying at this hotel through Hhonors points. We received a Business Room on the 4th floor (hotel has 5 floors). Room was very spacious. Comfortable bed. Nice, modern bathroom. TV has CNN, BBC and a bunch of German channels. We had room service the first night. Husband ordered steak, I had cheeseburger. Steak wasn't that great. Needed steak sauce, but cheeseburger was really good! Best cheeseburger I ever had in a hotel. Lobby has a full concierge desk and a big restaurant. There is a full coffee bistro in the lobby as well. Great for all hours. The S Bahn train is right under the hotel as well. The hotel is about a 10 minute walk to Marianplatz.Overall, I highly recommend this hotel. Great location, excellent customer service and comfortable accomodation.
