The best of Eastern Europe
... It is a big student town, and I could imagine it would certainly be fantastic on a Uni night because the town is littered with beautiful girls! We walked the streets, saw the Botanic Gardens (which we paid for??) and it looked like a bunch of trees and a stream with a fence around it! Well done Romania…a cool little city ...
Welcome to Cluj!
... a canyon 40 minutes south of Cluj. The canyon area has been continuously inhabited since around 6000BC, with ancient people first living in caves and then eventually shifting to a farming lifestyle and building houses on the plains above the river. We hiked through the canyon today – its incredibly beautiful. I’m looking forward to spending the next 5 weeks working in such an awesome place.

Week 4, Day 1
... into the mountains a bit. After our tour of the mountains, we took a walk through downtown Cluj. The buildings are quaint and the streets are narrow. There are about 100,000 university students at about 4 universities here, so there's a lot of energy and young people around. Cluj has about 400,000 people total, so it's a perfect size with some variety in places to go and things to do, but it still feels quaint and peaceful.
