We caught the 8pm train out of Kuala Lumpur on a Saturday night (80RM each to do first class - this is approx $30 Australian.) Regardless, sleeping was tough. I have a very clear memory of sometime in the middle of the night, brakes coming on the train very, very hard. I was very glad to hear that they finally worked... We were abruptly woken at 4am with a voice over the loud speaker telling us that we were about to arrive somewhere?? We couldn't make heads or tails of the destination name an...
Georgetown, Pinang, Malaysia katd Hi All
whilst my wife is still half cut on cocktails i thought i would send a quick update.
Now in Penang - which is Malaysia again, in a big hotel right on the beach which is a bit like a hotel that could be found in Benidorm but you all know that I do love doing the Macarena with Shirley and Deidre from Wigan!!!!
nice and relaxing and the room is huge..............................
N o Starbucks here which is a shame but i have been to find the nearest caffeine hut so I a...
The morning of the 8th I joined a handful of fellow masochistic Scrabblers in flying to Penang for another 18 games over the next three days. Why relax on the beautiful beaches of Penang when you could be playing more Scrabble? I joined Sam for lunch at an Indian restaurant for lunch, then crashed in my room for a nap in the afternoon before venturing out on my own for dinner. Found a nearby Thai place where I got pad thai and a Diet Coke for 9 ringgit! What a deal. Had a good final day yeste...
Georgetown, Pinang, Malaysia meezermanIf you're not a vegetarian, enjoy polluted water, love dense smoggy air, aren't looking for tourist attractions, then Penang island, Malaysia is the perfect vacation destination for you! We flew out of Kuala Lumpur at 6:55am, so we could arrive in Penang bright and early as we read there were many things to do on this island. After checking into our hotel and having some breakfast, we decided to begin sight-seeing right away since we had less than 2 days in the city. We stayed in the main ci...
Georgetown, Pinang, Malaysia mitchmichOur last day in the tourist attraction of the world....ahhh...Penang! We had the breakfast buffet, which was an interesting spread to say the least. Once again, we cannot figure out why Penang is famous for their food. We then relaxed in our room, watching the latest news on the Mumbai terrorist attacks and Bangkok protests. Our plan was to spend the day on Gurney Drive, a local market place, to shop and have lunch. Then, we'd come back to the hotel in the late afternoon and get ready for ou...
Georgetown, Pinang, Malaysia mitchmichThe overnight train last night sucked. It really is not the most comfortable place to sleep. I think it's just a little too short of a bed for me. Which means it must be way too small for most people. At some point in the morning, SH figures around 4am, we woke up to the shrieks of "Chicken! Chicken!" from some woman walking up and down the aisles. It seemed like the wrong time for dinner to me, but later I regretted not taking advantage of the opportunity. Maybe if I had been awake and coher...
Georgetown, Pinang, Malaysia travelingdivaWhen we woke up this morning, Superman's leg was a mess. From the knee right down to his toes, it was incredibly swollen. I could see we weren't going very far today, so I walked slowly beside him as he limped around the corner to the dinner place we were at last night. There was a small festival of some sort going on in the street, including free live entertainment for us. And entertaining it was. There were a few bands that played but it was the small talk they made in between that I found ...

... it was difficult to make an unnoticed escape. I would've started to feel awkward if I hadn't found it so amusing. I eventually managed to quietly slink away when ranting woman started to introduce another speaker and everyone looked the other way! Fantastic. Dog Watch: [0/5] Only saw a few dogs. None barked at us. I believe there will be a lot less dogs here, dogs that don't have collars around their necks seem to be dealt with. Next stop Taiping! Catch you all soon! Tom -x-
Georgetown, Pinang, Malaysia cereal42... hard as we possible could. We're both tired, weary, dirty and smelly but we'd better get used to it because between here and england there's another 20,000 and at least a further 17 countries to cross. It's tough and everyday presents a new challenge but at the same time it's awesome. The freedom, the adventure, not knowing where the road will take you that day or what trials and tribulations will come your way. Quite honestly, I'm loving every minute of it....
Pinang, Malaysia thepostman... It was a really interesting place in which to walk around - long on character and short on the irritations that can often accompany large cities. I also really enjoyed the pace of the city, which was on the slower side - quite a contrast to Kuala Lumpur. I spent most of my time there walking (and walking, and walking) and basically saw a good portion of the city center - a wonderful ...
