Today is World AIDS Day. Since I did Dance Marathon last year at BW (some of you pledged money and donated to pediatric AIDS so that I was able to dance for 12 hours so thank you!) I felt very passionate in being able to be in South Africa for World AIDS Day. I wasn't as involved as I would have like to be but it was still incredible to be here.

This morning we woke up bright and early to go to church in ...

Today is workers day a holiday in South Africa to represent the working class. Workers day is equivalent to our labor day except workers day started because of the labor strike for shorter work days that got out of hand in Chicago. Strange that it's a holiday for them yet we don’t recognize the event that happened in our own back yard. Since it was workers day all museums and government buildings were closed so we had a tour through a township. Now townships ...

TIA - "This is Africa"... the line of the day from our tour guide, Mike, as we visited the Langa Township today. The city of Cape Town and many other countries were shut down today in honor of Worker's Day. Which is a national holiday here and most businesses, the university and tourist attractions are closed in observance.
SHAWCO arranged for us to spend the day in Lango, South Africa's oldest black township that dates back ...

Today was another good day. We thought we were going to be driving through a couple of the townships.  We actually took a walking tour of Langa, one of the townships in Cape Town.  We started out by meeting a guy named Sabu Mzansi at his house in Langa. His family turned the house into a restaurant in 2008.  Sabu gives tours of Langa, Sabu's mother cooks for the guests, and Sabu's father and cousins play instruments while the guests ...

Today was absolutely unexpected yet totally amazing! We didn't really know exactly what we were doing today except touring one of the townships. That is what we did, but we also did so much more! Today was a public holiday called Workers Day so people were out and about more than normal because many of the businesses were closed.

Today we visited the township of Langa, the oldest Black African township in Cape Town. We had two amazing ...
