... was done very well in the same style as Singapore zoo with low fences, very large areas for each panda and sloping ditches to prevent them jumping over the fence. We started off at the baby pandas, which were very cute squeezing through bars in a temporary inside pen whilst the keepers put out their food. They were then let out in twos to their outside area where they devoured a mountain of fresh bamboo shoots. ...

... and very fertile. It was agriculture everywhere. It is simple living but you do not get the feel of poverty that you do from Africa.

Tomorrow the kids get to hold a Panda and we have a few museums to see. It will be a pretty full day and then off to Xi'an. I saved some face tonight with dinner in the hotel but we are still finding our way. I may drop some lbs which is needed.

... was absolutly spectacular), face changing with masks really fun, hand shadow performances, knife throwing, and of course singing, which not even the locals can understand!

The whole show was amazing and it is something i really want to go back to see again.

A Final 5 or 10 Kilometers

This morning Sam and I walked the final five or ten kilometers down Emei Shan. The trail map, the Lonely Planet, and other hikers gave us conflicting estimations of distance. It's safe to say, though, that we hiked between 35 and 45 kilometers in two and a half days.

My legs are functioning at about 1/3 capacity. As we began our final descent (pardon the melodrama, I know this isn't Everest) we met up with a young Chinese girl who told us ...

Day 2

... devices in our room that we had been led to believe were air conditioners. Turns out their heaters!!! We couldn't control them but somehow Eiwok had a remote that did, and BAM!!! Heat. Sweet, sweet heat. I cannot not put into words how happy that made all of us! Life is good J I am not going to sleep in a room that is normal room temperature, not 45 degrees, and we are all happy.
