A day in the 100 Years War

... so narrow that it was essentially only knights in plate that charged at first. As nobles they had priority, and with all of them on the field there was little room for French archers, crossbowmen or even lesser infantry.

It was another massacre. The French were so many they impeded each other’s movement. Many couldn’t even use their weapons properly because there was such a crush. And as men at the front line found themselves in trouble, they were ...

Beauvais

... the excitement of the finish line kept us going. I can't describe the feeling cycling under the tower it really did feel like journeys end, five months on the road we had done pretty much everything we had set out to do and here we were in one of the most exciting cities in the world with a final set of experiences left to enjoy.

We must have cycled 20km or more that day we just went from one sight to the next, it was fairly hard going for Sharon on some of the busy ...

Heading to Spain

... at 2, so we decided to get a coffee and walk around. We found a lot of shops, and the cathedral, but we were dragging around our luggage, so we couldn't do much. Then we walked back to the train station to catch the bus at the airport. Once we were at the airport, more waiting. We had to wait to check in, and then we had to wait to board the plane. We flew Ryanair, and there are no assigned seats, so we were first in line and got seats in the front of ...

Auvers-sur-Oise... Friends, Wine, Lunch & Van Gogh

... of Auvers-sur-Oise. It was the final home of Vincent van Gogh. Here he painted: The Church at Auvers; Wheat Field with Crows; Daubigny's Garden and Thatched Cottages by a Hill... to mention a few. He stayed in an upper room at the Ravoux Inn... where he died in July of 1890 at age 37. Sad to say... this ended our Adventures in Europe...

WEekend in Paris

... friends might want it. We spent a while chatting and went out to a club in Paris that night, which was REALLY fun! Then, Saturday we did our main touristy things. We started our 'historical paris walk' at Notre Dame. WE then went to the Deportation MEmorial, then Ile de Cite (which was a small island in Paris right next to Notre Dame). We then went to the Latin Quarter, which was my favorite and we HAD to get a crepe while we were there ...

Gerberoy- a village saved by artists

I have always been interested in France. Also in the most beautiful villages of France. One of them is Gerberoy. Close (300 km./180 miles) to my home we went to visit it. It was desolated and abandonned until Henri-Eugene le Sidaner decided to reside there. He was a painter and other artists came and restored the village to its beauty it is now.
The Colossus of Beauvais

... as if afraid it was going to collapse. Construction scaffolding was covering the first few meters of the façade, but we were able to observe the gargoyles and the details of the elegant spires as we drew nearer. Faces, some frightened and others placid, emerged from the stonework as well as flowers and vines. 157 ...

More of Paris

... four feet across at it's widest point, and in it is a toilet, a sink and a shower. I think some people were expecting a litte more room... There were tears shed, emotional break downs were had it was a hard day. I was very blessed to remain in good spirits throughout the ordeal. We set out to find some dinner. There was a little restaurant just across the street that had pizza and some other things for fairly reasonable...it was an ...

Caen to Giverny to Paris

... Stopped at a McDonalds to pee about halfway there and there was a kiddie toilet in the stall! The McDonalds was right next to a Leclerec which seems to be their version of Walmart and it was PACKED! We did finally make it to Giverny and after passing up the street to the hotel twice, we made it to Le Clos Fleuri. Claude showed us to our room which was huge and great. I've never seen quite such a bright bathroom - bright yellow toilet seat and no shower curtain - as ...
