    ... it transpired that the first bus to Kuantan didn't leave until 11am the following morning. Thankfully there were spaces on the bus and I got a seat but we didn't leave until 2:15pm and stopped for half an hour for lunch so didn't get to Kuantan until 5:45pm by which time there were no more onward buses running to Jerantut.     ... Another half a mile or so was the gorgeous Botanical Gardens. This area reminded me of Central Park in NY except it was tropical! A little bit of haven in a mad city. There are lakes, fountains and loads of beautiful walks through tropical plants by a river. Had quite a few stops for iced watermelon juice (at the moment it's my favorite drink). Spent a few hours chilling out under a palm tree reading, before walking on to Sentral Railway ...

    Our beach escape!! Cherating is a half awake beach town on the eastern coast of Malaysia. It was the closest nice beach that we could find to Taman Negara. We ended up staying at the nicest place in town, a resort with a pool and aircon, ahh. It was still cheaper than most motels in the US!     ... the food you were given to feed a variety of animals. We went to feed the deers first. We fed them sweet potato from our hands. They are such gentle animals and take the food gently from your hand. We got to pat them and then go into the cage with them to take closer photos. While we were in there Steve got to feed a emu, these are not so gentle and it bit his hand. The rest of us were not stupid enough to feed an emu as we know they bite and are scary.
