    ... Another half a mile or so was the gorgeous Botanical Gardens. This area reminded me of Central Park in NY except it was tropical! A little bit of haven in a mad city. There are lakes, fountains and loads of beautiful walks through tropical plants by a river. Had quite a few stops for iced watermelon juice (at the moment it's my favorite drink).     Our beach escape!! Cherating is a half awake beach town on the eastern coast of Malaysia. It was the closest nice beach that we could find to Taman Negara. We ended up staying at the nicest place in town, a resort with a pool and aircon, ahh. It was still cheaper than most motels in the US!
