Le Plage

... Climbing up and up the roughly cobbled path you get a feeling of imposing grandure from the massive structure towering above. Walking along fortified walls strung with archer keys I couldn’t help but imagine I was a medieval maiden. (And to help with this fantasy, the nearest shop sells period clothing for both you and your partner!). Cruising through the streets my imagined past was crushed by the tapas bars and screaming children. I ...

Raggamuffin for a week

... a drink) and hit the dance floor. What I love about European dance clubs is that there are no rules. You don't need a girl glued to your ****** all night so you can do a tandem metronome with each other's ******es. None of that here. You go out there and you move however you like. You may look like a manatee with Parkinson's but Hey!, so does everyone else. I had a really good time catching up with all these people and hopefully I can do it ...

Waste of a day

What a waste of a day...

Go to Nimes and the national parks people said..... we ended up at a campsite way out of Montpellier and the highlight of our day had been the supermarket!!!!

The national park was lots of farm type marsh land... not what we had imagined. Nimes seemed pretty and lots of well preserved Roman things but the traffic was a nightmare and too hard to park so we kept driving with a plan to go out in Montpellier that ...

Two Fine Meals

... that will linger in the memory, well beyond the consumption, and without really knowing what we were ordering. After complimentary salads to start, Alison had sliced duck on skewers (the waiter asked, in the manner of steak, how madame would like it), and I had a pot of seafood (Marmite). Both superb. We followed, in the same manner with desserts that were unknown to us, but proved to be delicious – Alison's was a chocolate tart ...

Monster Aquaduct

... one of the wonders of the Ancient World. It is the largest of Rome's aquaducts and quite a show piece. It's in amazing condition and spans the river Gard. It's a very friendly attraction. There are hiking trails and we saw people swimming and kayaking nearby in the river.

From Pont du Gard we headed on to Nimes, the former Roman city that the aquaduct was built to service. Here the Romans left behind, among other things ...

Little Anecdotes and Random Curiosities...

... proud. It was a great evening and a wonderful insight into French culture and socializing. I have since also attended a crepe party which was much less intimidating from a culinary standpoint and oh so much more gratifying...from a tastebud standpoint. Wonderful. I even helped with the preparation and must say I was a pro! Points scored with the Frenchies once again I was told. Not bad. Entering my tenth week here in France..... -I can comfortably encounter a French ...

its raining its pouring

torture. i just wrote out a really long semi-poetic entry. and then went to delete a typo, hit backspace, and lost it all. i'll try again. but the rain is slowing now. and i'm not sure i'll capture it quite the same. shoot. it was raining. its pitter pattering now. big juicy fat drops of summer rain. the drenching kind. i've always loved the rain - did you know? i was reminded of an essay that mightve been part of my high school english regents, or at ...

Rugby against Fiji

Today was up and out in search of coffee and croissants again (well when in Rome) and happen to stumble across my new friends from last weekend who had arrived in this morning so it was a quick catch up before we headed off to find the boys and there tickets and then headed out to the ground for the game. Found my seat and settled in for an entertaining game of rugby against the Fijians. and that is exactly what it ...
