... spot. We went to a great bar called "clinic" where the seats are wheelchairs or hospital beds and your drinks get served in syringes and drip bags, brilliant! But at 8 pounds a pint here (and in the whole of Singapore) we didn't stay for long!
I spent the few days here exploring the city and doing all the touristy "must-do's" which included a night safari followed by drinks at Raffles hotel. It was strange going into this ...
Hello guys.
Made it safely to Singapore with one or two little glitches that made it a little less enjoyable than it might have been. For a start our reserved seats with the Qantas flight from Heathrow to Singapore got cancelled when we checked in for our BA flight from Edinburgh to Heathrow. We would have ended up seated apart at different end of the aircraft, but the Chalke charm (or smarm) and the Devenney "they cant do that ...
... it's on the 70th floor, my mom got a good lay of the land while sipping on tea and enjoying a buffet.
I made sure to take her to Arab Street, Little India and Chinatown. There were a lot of beads I wanted to buy around Arab Street but I figure I should start with a class on beading. Little India had already set up the decorations of Deepvali and my mom got to try mango and strawberry lassi for ...
... although the views of the Harbour were ok. Other factors that let it down where the duration, being only 5 minutes and costing 22 Singapore dollars. Sentosa Island I did not like, everything was really touristy, with attractions and overinflated pricing and it had a cheap, tacky and inauthentic feel about it, everything a island shouldn't be. After doing the Imbiah trail nature walk (which was the ...
Singapore, Singapore leehorscraft... at us and ask us a random question on dermatology we knew possibly nothing about) during it so it was nice to think that we've moved on from the odd foreigners who came to this hospital "for fun" to people who actually have some basic knowledge of medicine.
All in all, it was a good day and I had no encounters with rude people. I've learnt that rudeness only responds to assertion in this environment so I've decided it's not impolite to be direct if someone is being a ****.
... on our way to Southeast Asia Hotel (triple room was 118 Singapore dollars incl.breakfast). Of course we were on late flights and just arrived at the hotel around 1:30. We had 4 months to catch up on so of course we didn't get much sleep as lights were finaly turned off shortly after 4 a.m. After a few hours sleep we were up and started our whirlwind visit of Singapore city as we were there ...
Singapore, Singapore bowtieSo, for Singapore I spent most of my time in the conferences I attended, which were absolutely amazing. Singapore is hugely invested in education and it really showed with these conferences. I can't imagine a more inspiring and fulfilling way to spend the first week of my summer vacation.
It was totally exhausting though. I wanted to get a cheaper hotel than any of the ones affiliated with the conference, so I ended up having about an hour commute each way ...
The place to be on Saturday evening!
Singapore, Singapore vera_und_alex... I settled on, and I felt that I could eat at a different place every day for a year just in this hawker centre and still be happy.
Though, it must be said, my wannabe Asian tastebuds do not extend quite as far as dessert. While I concede the pungent fruit durian does not taste anywhere near as unpleasant as it smells, I wouldn’t trawl all over town to hunt a fresh one down like some of my Sydney friends hailing from Malaysia would. And just the idea of ...
