Nice hotel, huge lobby with marble columns and floor. High end of 3star. Bugleaders had nasi ayam for supper while the jrs were more tempted by the golden arch right next door. This is another one-dish meal of rice, chicken and veggies, notably served by street vendors in Semarang. This one in particular only opens at night (that is, 10pm) till early morning (3-4 am) - I know, I also wondered who on earth will have heavy meal that late at night. But we were told, taxi driver and night workers.

Gombel Lama siroyo no 13, semarang 50262 Telp: +62 24 747744, ID.07, Indonesia grandtugumuda... 50,000. The bus station is on Jl. Siliwangi 496 and the phone is 7606925. I think the name is Bus Patas P.O. Coyo P.T. The route is Semarang - Pekalongan-Tegal-Cirebon. <br><br>I am finding that there are much fewer people speaking english along the northern coast. It is probably because this route sees much fewer foreigners/westerners than the southern route.

Semarang, Java, Indonesia bowtie... host and his family was nice and truly interesting, but offered one of the most basic lodgings I have been in for a long time. A very traditional Indonesian bathroom without shower and just cold murky water, delivered like that with big interruptions by the local state run water company, as well as myriads of mosquitoes at night gave my stay a bit of a third world touch. According to my host the family could be categorised as belonging to the lower middle class and the four ...

Semarang, Java, Indonesia glo_and_richard... out food vendors spread grass mates and low tables on the sidewalks. It's a rustic version of sidewalk cafes. We went down and watched the whole process so that at about 10 PM Arvid could try the jack fruit and coconut curry, a regional specialty called gudeg. Later that night we ended up with a group of workers from Save The Children International shooting pool and drinking Bintang beer until 2 AM out on Jalan By Pass on the edge of town.
Yogyakarta, Java, Indonesia yoni... You don't want to be wearing a silk shirt when you smoke these. The odor of clove cigarettes is distinctive to Indonesia and we've smelled them on the buses and streets since we got here. The patriarch started the company after the turn of the century and it now commands 70% of the local market. The best ones are hand rolled, with a slightly tapered form, keeping thousands of Indonesian women employed. The original model is pretty strong in nicotine ...
