would recommend, it is a bit out of the way but getting a tuktuk is no trouble. they wait out the front, taxis are available too. the food is lovely if a little pricey, but very convienient. the bar is also great if not a bit pricey too. the rooms are very clean and the a/c works brilliantly as well as the wifi.

      Great view

The View from our room is fantastic, it overlooks the pool, but if you look further you can see the River. The decour is fantastic, the whole place has a nautical theme (was very interesting seeing a 20something wearing a sailor uniform who was just a conceriege).
Another downer for this place, was our room instead of a double sized bed, actually has 2 singles push together. Which is basically the same thing, but it will make snuggling hard.
I am very happy with the selection of teas, so it's alright.

It's 5.30am when we are awoken by explosions and dogs barking. We fall back to uneasy sleep but all is serene at the hotel when we emerge for breakfast and Kingsley is waiting outside for us as planned.

For the first time ever, Sri Lanka's election has passed peacefully, no curfew has been imposed and the explosions we heard were …

Today is a momentous day for Sri Lanka and tension is in the air. The president Mahinda Rajapaksa faces the reckoning of the people and no-one knows quite what will happen.

The famous shape of the island gives it its name - Lanka, meaning teardrop. Over the centuries the Portugese, Dutch and finally British renamed it, eventually becoming …

Dambulla Caves and the Spice Gardens

An easy enough start this morning as bags were packed and ready to go, so after breakfast we headed first to Dambulla where four caves lie on top of a hill. On ascent a mixture of steps and raw rock eventually lead you to an area where you hand over your sandals and proceed barefoot on extremely cobbled ground. Four caves of varying size lie ahead …

some pics from today. most of the elephants names are most likely spelled wrong, as i learnt them by hearing. i think its very important for the elephants to walk around free, but this happens only up to 20 mins a day (if even that). improvements have to be done and there is a "freedom fence" project that hopefully will happen when enough money have been ...

... but both of us were tired and hence we hired a took took, which took us about 10 mins and SLR 50 to get there…the station was quite deserted as it is a small town…the entrance to the station reminded me of the entrance to my old school…there was a small ticket booth at the entrance with an old man sitting at the desk…he gave us a warm smile…asked us where we were from…he informed us that the next train to Colombo was scheduled in ...
