Tel Aviv: Arrival Day!

When the plane's tires touch ground in Tel Aviv, people clap their hands! We've arrived! It is a quick pass through immigration and customs, then a taxi to our Hotel Cinema in downtown Tel Aviv. There is a warm welcome from the front desk personnel and here we are, in our room, with a wonderful view from the balcony facing Dizengoff Square. So much to learn! We were taking a taxi to the railway station and we must have been at least ten blocks from our hotel, when I look at the meter and see that it is not running. Day 2: Safe and Sound

(Day 2, Tel Aviv, 6:00pm) We've arrived safe and sound in the Promised Land. To my chagrin, our flight's seat reservations were not what we selected, so I sat behind Kevin, both of us in middle seats. Ugh. Charakteristisches, kleines Hotel

Dies ist ein charakteristisches, kleines Hotel. Wir haben 2 Nächte im November 2006 hier verbracht und haben 112 $ pro Nacht inkl. Steuern bezahlt, indem wir direkt über die Hotelwebseite gebucht haben. Die Zimmer sind klein, aber bequem und nett eingerichtet. Das Hotel ist relativ neu und in einem guten Zustand. Es gibt eine wunderschöne Dachterrasse. Wir haben direkt auf den Dizengoff Circle geblickt, hatten jedoch keinerlei Probleme mit Lärm, wenn die Fenster geschlossen waren. Der Verkehr wird von einem Platz überdeckt und gedämpft. Im Gebäude gibt es eine Diskothek und so kann es sein, dass einige Zimmer beeinträchtigt werden, bei uns war dies jedoch nicht der Fall. Die Lage ist sehr günstig, jedoch nicht die Beste in Tel Aviv.

Distinctive small hotel

This is an interesting, distinctive hotel. We spent 2 nights Nov. 2006 and paid $112 per night with tax booking directly through the hotel chain website. Rooms are small but comfortable and well appointed. The hotel is fairly new, so in fine condition. There is a lovely roof deck. We faced Dizengoff Circle and experienced no issues with noise, keeping the windows closed. Traffic is covered by a plaza and muted. There is a disco in the building and some rooms could be impacted, though we were not. The location is very convenient, but not the absolute best in Tel Aviv.

Great place for twenty-somethings, but for the rest of us...

I spent two nights at the boutique Cinema Hotel in Tel Aviv based on the recommendation of Frommers. There are a lot of things to like about the Cinema Hotel: an architecturally distinctive Bauhaus building, a thoughtful remodeling job in 2001, its convenient location across from Dizengoff Square and convenient access to the shops and restaurants on Dizengoff Street, free wireless Internet (ask for the password at the front desk), a generous Israeli breakfast, and a classy evening snack bar. However, the book's warning about the noise may not be robust enough. During my stay on two weekday nights, the loud amplified music from a nearby club continued until 3:30 am. For people who plan to party late anyway or can sleep through anything, this hotel is an excellent choice. Thirty-somethings (or older) who just want a peaceful night's sleep after a long flight might consider other options.

EL hotel Cinema es todo lo que se ha dicho en la anterior opinión y más. La mayor sorpresa es el altísimo nivel del servicio personal. Tuve problemas con la conexión inalámbrica y el gerente del turno de noche se pasó horas descargando un programa para arreglarlo. La situación, en el corazón del distrito histórico moderno, es inmejorable. La azotea ofrece unas vistas maravillosas. El hotel ofrece descuentos para el excelentemente equipado gimnasio que hay al lado y, aunque no lo usamos, creo que también ofrecen aparcamiento gratis. Muy recomendable.

Nice Hotel

Me and my wife stayed at this hotel for 2 nights at the end of September 2006. The hotel is convieniently located near the center of Tel Aviv and within walking distance to a large shopping mall.

The hotel was previously a cinema and re-done. The interior of the hotel is very nice with old equipment and photos of the previous cinema placed throughout the hotel.

The room are nice and comfortable. We were placed in room 101 on the first floor.

The hotel offers breakfast in the morning which is large, lots of food and very nice.

I would stay at this hotel again. It is not over priced.

Outstanding Find - Location, Style, Service, Comfort

The Hotel Cinema is everything the prior reviewer said and more. The greatest surprise is the high level of personal service. I had difficulty with my wireless connection and the night manager spent hours downloading software that fixed the problem. The location, in the heart of the modern historic district, could not be better. The rooftop patio offers wonderful views. The rooms are very comfortable, with excellent AC and good soundproofing. The hotel offers discounts to the very well equipped gym next door and, though I didn't use it, appears to offer free parking as well. Highly recommended.

Stylish Boutique Hotel in Tel Aviv

When an impromptu trip brought me to Tel Aviv after many years, I decided that I would forgo the tourist-towers of Hayarkon and try to find somewhere that approached the more quirky and individual 'boutique' style hotels that travelers have come to know and love throughout the US, Europe and eleswhere.

A search brought forth the Cinema Hotel on Kikar Dizengoff, which during the seventies and eighties was the bustling epicentre of Tel Aviv's café-culture.

The hotel is within a sensitively converted Bauhaus-inspired 1930's cinema where I remember seeing Kubrick's Clockwork Orange back in 1972!

The original façade, lobby and staircases have been retained and there is a wonderful collection of cinematographic artefacts and original memorabilia from when it was a cinema. Old black and white movies are continually screened in the lobby. To complete the movie theme, popcorn is freely available at the reception desk.



My single room was fairly small, the bathroom tiny but perfectly functional and everywhere there were echoes of the hotels past. Importantly, I found the bed to be particularly comfortable. Everywhere was immaculately clean.



Up on the fourth floor there is a business lounge (free wi-fi) sauna and gym opening out onto a spacious roof terrace. If a hotel can be judged by its outdoor furniture, then this one passes with flying colours for the loungers, tables and chairs were all high quality teak.

My past experience of Israeli hotels has sadly, not been very encouraging, the service often surly and unhelpful. You get the impression of the staff that it is definitely not their chosen professional. But the folk at the Cinema Hotel dealt with all of my questions, queries and needs swiftly, cheerfully and efficiently. Here's an example. Arriving back at the hotel one night at 1.30 am, I realised that my phone needed charging and I had no charger. The night manager rooted around in the office for a suitable one but did not find one. He then called another hotel and it arrived within minutes.

One critism that I hope this hotel will address is its baffling system of higher rates for tourists and lower rates for Israelis. When challenged on this, their explanation was that they were trying to encourage local tourism by offering preferential prices. This egregious policy can be neatly circumvented by getting an Israeli friend to do the booking for you which instantly trims 10% off the price.

The Cinema Hotel is a welcome and refreshing lodging alternate in Tel Aviv with comfortable, well-appointed rooms and fascinating public area which stylishly demonstrated to me that the words 'customer service' still exist within the Israel vocabulary.
