    To escape this madding crowd we took a boat trip to the (famous) Isles De Lerins (Isle Ste-Marguerite, in fact) where the Man in the Iron Mask was incarcerated during the late 17th century. The island was very quiet, the walks pleasant and we could easily have spent longer there if the times of the boats had been better.
    On our return, things were reaching fever pitch with BP and Black Cars absolutely everywhere. ...

    ... having their brekky in their boats. The town seems very quiet and the atmosphere is not very lively.

    Unfortunately we have to suffer yet another bus back. We do get seats but when a few elderly folk jump on we stand up only to be pushed by two younger ladies in ~50's who were perfectly capable of standing but took the seats! Excuse moi! I think maybe I'll leave the French to be nice to the French.

    ... had bought two pumpkins. One for each of the kids and an hour or so was spent sitting on their balcony scouping out and cutting the Halloween pumpkins. We brought Megs back to the apartment, complete with matches and tea light candles.

    We are all feeling a bit knackered at the moment. Lots of travelling combined with finally getting in to holiday ...

    ... Florence is going to become a no car city (in the centre) even for residents - not sure what they will do. The statues and buildings are deteriorating at such a fast rate from pollution that they need to try and save them. The sections we walked around in hardly had any cars - it was like one giant mall. The beautiful cobbled flagstones were everywhere and the houses and apartments were charming, but you could see the dirt on the massive cathedrals. They have cleaned one small section ...

    ... been waiting for. That plane to land in
    Venetian lands. Cannot describe the excitement! Flying out at 6.00pm,
    arriving at Venice 7.05pm. We arrive in the Mestre so we will have to
