Arrive in Italy!

We arrive in Rome (FCO) in the morning. After we collected our luggage, we were greeted by our driver who picked up a bunch of us from the airport and brought us over to our hotel (Hotel Cicerone). Our tour guide, Gloria, gave us suggestions for sight-seeing for the rest of the day. We went to the Piazza Navona for lunch at one of the pizzerias as we took in the sights. After lunch, we headed over to the Spanish Steps and hiked our way up to the top! We then walked over to the Piazza del Popo...

Ciao Roma!

We made it easily to the hotel off the flight - the luggage and transfers went very smoothly. We got into our room immediately to boot! We freshened up, tried not to fall asleep, and quickly went out in search of an ATM and found food at a sidewalk cafe (which as usual was a little longer stop than expected). We asked around and bought public transit tickets and were off to the area of the Coliseum via the subway. Jen was amazed at the sight of the Coliseum right out of the subway stop and we...

Exploring Roma

On this day we visited the Vatican museums and the Sistine Chapel, where we saw Michelangelo's celing paintings and The Last Judgement. We went to St. Peter's Square and Basilica. After crossing the tiber, we visited the Colosseum and the Roman Forum, where Roman legions marched in triumph.

Last night in Rome

9/19/08 10:35 PM Hello! Today was kind of a "transport" day. We were allowed to sleep in a bit before we left the Amalfi Coast region at 10:00. We drove for about 2 hours before stopping at a rest stop for lunch. I had a light lunch - best to be hungry for an Italian dinner. After another 2 hours in the bus, we arrived at Circone Hotel in Rome, which is different than the hotel we had originally planned to stay in. The weather in Rome: chilly and drizzling. Not the best weather, but it prove...

Central to all the major sites in Rome

Welcoming, centrally located hotel with beautiful rooms and an outstanding breakfast! Vatican City and all major tourist sites are within walking distance.

Hot, Noisy, You Can Do Better

from MissPicante
Really no reason to stay here. I was here with a tour group and thought the cost for an additional night ($260US) was totally out of proportion to the property. Hotel refused to turn on air conditioning, it was hot and noisy with windows open to the street. Thiry minutes walk to Spanish Steps, twenty minutes walk to the Vatican. Not a particularly charming area for neighborhood restaurants. You can do better.

Nice but noisy

from A TripAdvisor Member
Agree with earlier posters, street noise is very bad. Staff very helpful and accomodating. Good location. Needed triple room and they do not have many of these so could not move to new room. Hotel advertises king beds, but bed was two doubles pushed together.Great breakfast buffet. Would request room away from road.

Street Noise

WE were part of a group on a tour with Rockhurst university March 6th 2004.. The rooms were nicely appointed, but the street noise was incredible. It was all night long. The breakfasts were good and the staff was helpful and most spoke english. We would return and request a quieter room if one is available.

Great hotel.

First leg of our two week honeymoon in Italy. We spent four nights and found the hotel to be nice and quite, away from all of the hustle and bustle of Rome's nightlife. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. They helped us get opera tickets. The only hitch is that since it is in the business/residential area at night there were no all night diners/restaurants within an easy walking distance. We got to our hotel around midnight and was unable to find a place to eat, and went to bed with only the memory of airplane food.

Enjoyed Our Stay

from George88
My husband and I stayed at the Cicerone for two nights at the conclusion of a 4 week transatlantic cruise. Perhaps it was staying in a hotel after being in a ship cabin for so long, but our stay was very pleasant with no complaints at all. We were pleased with our room; it was comfortable and spotless. It faced the street, and we experienced no street noise. We found concierge to be friendly & helpful and the location to be very convenient for us. We would stay in this hotel again.

No No Cicerone

I spent one night at this hotel as a single traveler with a tour group.

The street noise was unbearable in my tiny, dark room on the first floor above the lobby. There was black mold in the grout lines of the shower, and it leaked water onto the floor from beneath the shower pan.

In the morning I found that the lobby seating area below my room had badly warped wood flooring from water damage. However, the seventies modern hotel is not badly located. The Vatican, Hadrian's Tomb, Piazza Navona, the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain and Spanish Steps are within easy walking distance. I did not have much contact with the staff, but they seemed efficient and polite. The breakfast bar was typical of all tour breakfasts I have had in Europe and Asia.

Very Helpful Staff

from The_TravelerUSA101
The staff at the Cicerone made our stay an extremely pleasant one.

Largely English speaking, the staff goes out of its way to be helpful.

They assisted us in planning our trip to Southern Italy and even purchased train tickets for us. If you are a native English speaker and want some help planning travels throughout Italy, this is a great place to stay. The rooms are nicely decorated and clean--but, unspectacular.

The lobby and common areas are modern and tasteful. I highly recommend this hotel for it's convenience and the attentive staff.

Noisy!

The hotel is not bad, but the street noise is very bad

Nice Hotel, Badd View

from littlebuddy
The Cicerone is a very nice Hotel with an excellent free continental breakfast. The evening bartender was extremely nice and very helpful with our wine selections. The Concierge was also very helpful in setting up local tours and with food choices. The only downfall of the hotel was the view. We looked straight across a courtyard at a brick wall, but who has time to sit in the room when you have a beautiful city to explore!
