Not as bad as people make it out to be

After reading all the reviews about this hotel, I was a bit hesitant to stay here... But although the smell in the reception was a bit strong, the room I got was not too bad. It's clean, if a bit dark. Bed is nice and big. Best of all, the WiFi was actually decent.

And finally, here comes the third and final part to my solo trip in Geneva. Hardly any pictures here, FYI. I honestly wanted to do so much more. But late opening times, long lines and lots of waiting meant that I had missed out on many things that I had wanted to do. So today, I woke up early, wanting to do stuff that I didn't manage to do in the …

Because I had a pretty busy day planned, with the main stops being CERN and the UN office in …

People say that a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. For me, my very first solo travel trip actually started with a place that has become very familiar to me... my department at the University. Which actually wouldn't be too bad if it wasn't 4 am and I had only 4 hours of sleep.

In any case, it didn't take too long and …

... 7pm-5am), and ended up getting lost in the multi-level city. We eventually asked for directions, trudged through the "downpour," and made it to the train station in time to narrowly avoid hypothermia. It had gotten to be so snowy that trains out of the city were delayed, but we made it back just fine. Interestingly enough, the most interesting part of the trip was learning that the public bathrooms in Switzerland, besides Geneva, are ...

... out where we were right away. We walked through the "red light district," saw the UN, visited the big train station, and saw part of the Old City. Luckily, my team (it was broken up by floor), tied for the prize, which was a GIANT bar of Toblerone.

Those of us who are in the "Politics, Nations and Identities: Switzerland and the EU" course started class on Wednesday. Our professor is Dr. Peters, a world-traveled, spunky lady originally from East Germany. The ...
