... running a lot, over the last 1-2 months my training hasn't been great. I always do the long runs on the weekends, but during the week I haven't been very consistent. I knew I would finish, but I also knew that I may be hurting a bit during the last 10k.
There were around 22,000 participants in the race. I got off to a slow start, as it was impossible to move for the first 5km. There were just too many people and there was nothing you ...
... something actually worth knowing, and where kids have dream jobs like diplomat, judge and civil servant instead of pro-gamer, pro-gamer or pro-gamer. The wet season continued to sweep backwards and forwards across the country, scourging the rice fields and winnowing the corn stalks, flaying umbrellas in the streets and drenching me to the bone. But the rain was welcome; it was a re-assertion of nature over and against the sweat and grit of the concrete landscape. I collected bent and ...
Cheorwon, Korea Rep. philiad... cousins on my dad's side is named byoung. let me explain. first off, most korean names have three characters: the surname/family name which comes first, then the middle character which would be the first name in the states then the last character or the middle name back home. confusing for you non-koreans reading this? just think of your last name getting moved to the first spot and then everything else getting pushed back one position. ok ...
Chuncheon, Korea Rep. euniceandbyoung... in the northeastern corner of the country. along with another province (Gyeonggi-Do), it "forms" the border with North Korea. (don't be alarmed. i'm not frequenting the 38th parallel or anything.) here's a little map of the provinces for your enjoyment. it is kind of ...
Chuncheon, Korea Rep. torissecret... an overview, I am really enjoying life here. Things - like throwing toilet paper away instead of flushing it, a completely different variety of foods, walking a lot, and not being able to communicate fully - definitely take getting used to, but I like the change. All of my "colleagues" here are very down-to-earth and mostly upbeat, so things have been a lot easier than they could have been. I obviously miss my ...

Namyangjusi, Korea Rep. kimchi39... does not have much wilderness but they do have the most beautiful landscape created by the rugged small mountain ranges. My time in Korea is coming to an end :(. My next trip to Asia will likely encompass Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam - when is the issue (definitely not during the humid summer). Tidbits: - Just shove a moist bamboo pole into the ground and it will grow. - Barber poles, especially the electric ones, are not quite what you ...
Chuncheon, South Korea, Korea Rep. tombuttle... another "roadie" who was on their way to Thailand. Its so funny to me that we run into people we know while on the other side of the planet. The Tokyo airport is hands down my favorite to have a long layover in. The Airline Lounge has free wireless, plenty of space, tons of plug ins, free snacks and drinks. All the things i look for in a layover. We are staying the night here in Seoul tonight and catching a flight to Yeosu in the morning.
Seoul, United States globe.trotter... from Seoul to Chuncheon (2 hours), but as soon as our feet hit the platform, the rain began to fall. And fall. And fall. Then the lightning started. Then the thunder. Then the wind. For about half an hour we bore witness to a good old fashoined hot, steamy rainstorm. It was actually pretty spectacular. I learnt later that 10 Koreans were killed by the lightning and a further 5 hospitalised. With the rain still lightly tumbling, the ...
Chuncheon, Korea Rep. brettelmer... they gave us a short info tour on the history of South Korea. I learned a couple of things, but it was honestly VERY short. Well, I guess the other reason that I couldn't pay attention was because there was a parade outside that they have everything Friday. I took plenty of pictures because it was very cool. We saw the roof of the old palace but we didn't go inside because we didn't have time. Then they took us to the Korean Folk Village. We spent ...
