... Et tel Hitchcock vous me verrez traverser l'écran! C'est en anglais...no French version available so far! A video recently done next to the 1st Better Work Haiti international buyers and major stakeholders' forum on Sept 30th, Oct 1st and 2nd. It will give a glimpse of what the situation is in ...
Port-au-Prince, Haiti marco... my flashlight, switching off the first horror show and moving onto another, more familiar one: my face in the bathroom mirror. As I brushed my teeth, the reflection of the flashlight gave me a ghostly glow. I broke the ice (with, ahem, myself), jiggled the flashlight a little under my chin, and let out a deep-throated and shaky “Hoooowaaaaa haa haaaa” before heading back off to bed with a giggle.
Petionville, Haiti suzyinbenin... d’enfants contents, rieurs, farceurs.
... some food down before our next flight. This time we say goodbye to Bill, Dave, and Jane as they are flying to Chicago for a wedding. We nominate John to be in charge of our motley crew. He tries to decline but we won't let him, especially because he gets to sit in first class without us!
Our plane is delayed taking off in Fort Lauderdale, thunderstorms. I'm flashing back to two years prior when we missed our ...
... and over my general nervousness. I got compliments on my pronunciation and grammar, but my comprehension is in the toilet. I met with Adrien, who is my contact at the archive and he gave me a tour. For historians and archivists there were some gut wrenching sites. With limited resources, much of the archives are not climate controlled. Piles of crumbling boxes contained records, but anyone could guess the contents. Hundreds of sacks one would find ...
Port-au-Prince, Haiti mtrmsd... stop and readjust the pipe but I actually looked forward to it this time because it gave us a chance to stand up and stretch. We invented a new syndrome on the drive called 'NBS' which by the end of the drive turned to NBD. So it went from numb butt syndrome to numb butt dead! The seats were hard and the bumpy roads didn't help any. The general route took us through many cities including Les Caiyes, Caucillon, Aquin, Miragoane ...
Port Au Prince, Haiti asiankrizzos... aware that I am staying in a well established, hotel, I travel in an elevated SUV with a Haitian driver, I eat at a well stocked buffet. That will all change. I cant wait. In the "relief shelter tension mounted as the residents did not understand what we were doing there. With our white skin, we should be arriving with food. Why were we asking so many questions? They are hungry, why were we asking about their plans for going home? Why did we want to ...
Port-au-Prince, Haiti hancocjb... back at the rectory continuing to work on plumbing and electrical. They have also begun painting the rooms of the rectory. Soon it will be the 100th anniversary of St. Pierre so Father Boniface would like it spruced up before the Bishop comes. We eat a late lunch. We're pretty much dining on tuna and chicken packets. Sometimes we spruce it up with pickle relish or crushed potato chips. Then we jump into the ...
St. Pierre, Haiti larindaA nice Scottish woman (Ms. Craig) from a catholic relief organization joined us on Tuesday night. Father Guy decided to take us both to visit the schools. Ms. Craig is hoping to start and feeding program in the schools since some of the children walk 2 to 3 miles a day in each direction and need a nutritious meal.
Los Palis/Nwebo, Haiti haileygoneagain... working with the poor - again, this describes my present situation. And though I am very happy here, before writing this letter, I still must contemplate reality and pray profoundly. For the last seven years of my life, I have been living abroad, dreaming and living for a church in which I believe. But most of all, I have been colaborating in community for the Reign of God, the beautiful project of God for us. I am more aware of the importance of the ...
