... down the countryside became greener, and the livestock returned to sheep and cows. At a village called Gulpinar we stopped for icecream and some other supplies. We saw signs to one of the ancient sights situated in the village and went to visit it, the ruins of Apollon Smitheon, a 2nd century BC temple to Appolo and Smitheon (Lord of the Mice). ... there and take look. The hill where the rock footprint is, has great views, but unfortunately it's quite hazy. We set off again heading for the Biga Peninsula. We followed the coast road and came across a camp site. We pulled in and had to weave our way through the olive trees trying to miss any low branches and parked up. It is like a mini resort, there are small huts that are for rent, there is a restaurant facing a narrow shingle beach which has loungers, and grass ...

... the castle which has been turned over to a marine archeological museum. Beautiful shady walks and fascinating exhibits going back to relics from the Bronze Age. Well worth the quick visit! After quite some difficulty in receiving the hire car that we had organised we finally set off for Selcuk to stay overnight so we could visit Ephesus the following day. We get to the hotel at beer o clock and found an inviting terrace to sit on...along come ...

... Foreshore! Eventually we arrived at the fishing village of Assos. The hotel is quite flash when compared to the beach houses around but it's a big step down from the Hilton. And it was back to the buffet for dinner .... Grrrrr. So disappointing after the local cuisines at the restaurants at Patmos. The weather has closed in and it's very fresh and it's been raining a bit. Went for a walk along the beach which is like many European beaches ... Rocky and stony. Assos ...
