FAST INTERNET ZAMBIA - PHOTOS!!!

Hooray - Livingstone has fast internet!!!!

Some recent pics tonight, and hopefully some more tomorrow once I change back to my first memory card.

So livingstone has been great so far - did a bungee and gorge swing yesterday over the Zambezi and nearly drowned today rafting down it. I've rafted before but I can safely say that I have never feared for my life ...

LUSAKA RUNAROUND

... Zambians seem pretty nice and friendly btw- I get a cab to the Lusaka Hotel… and it’s full. The Protea Hotel next door, ditto… and that’s over a $100 a night! This is not looking good. I go to the Chinese casino, which has rooms in the works, the crafty little buggers… but they’re not ready yet. An unfinished place next door- likely the same owner/operation- has got the right idea, proudly proclaiming 'Internet ...

last day of holiday

Tomorrow, back to work. We are starting our field trip early tomorrow because we have so many kids that if we dont get there early we might not all be able to get in. Im sure Ill have lots to say about the field trip afterwards.
Its almost surreal being with Megan's boys, who less than 6 months ago were full time at the orphanage House of Martha. Here they are with us at this very nice resort where incidentally the president of Zambia was just here last night ...

On the way to Livingstone

... to buy something it takes us about two minutes to try and figure out how much it is costing us in Canadian :)

Tomorrow we are headed to Livingston, which is where Victoria Falls is.  We will be at the same campsite for the next four days which will be really nice because it gets tiring setting up and taking down your tent everyday.

Internet should be better at the next campsite so we are hoping to be able to post some pictures.

Lots of Love,

Lusaka

... toil? We hadn't seen a soul since we set out so a good job we recovered ourselves. We carried on for ages but without little problem until we reached to a wildlife outpost & they said we could camp anywhere or drive the 12km to a camp for the night - we saw the camp signs but despite try several tracks they all ended up disappearing into very wet cotton mud bogs so no chance of getting through. We found a nice spot and set up camp and had dinner & early bed - no animal ...

Belated entry

... beloved bike across - invariably having no brakes and no pedals! We eventually got back to the farm complex and said goodbye to our companion fully expecting to be tapped up for money or sponsorship as he had told us his parents had died in 2006 and he couldn't complete his schooling & he had failed his driving test in Lusaka but couldn't raise the money to re-take it but, no, there was none of this (as we've experienced in several other countries) just a friendly bye ...

Zooming through Zambia and Lusaka

... None of us wanted to party so he decided to party on his own. This included getting his rifle out and taking pot shots at crocodiles! Sunday 1st March - Day 11 Kafue to Lusaka, (70km) Fortunately we did get some good sleep and left just after 6.30am to walk to the local village. Francis, despite being up all night on guard, was our guide to his small family area of 10 people. As we arrived we were met by his brother Joseph (53) who took us ...

Wait ... I thought I was escaping the cubicle ...

... 2 weeks. Right? I hope so. In the mean time, I have been itching to get out of Lusaka and see the "real Africa," as everyone calls it here, which I think is really funny. What am I in now? The fake Africa? I think Cape Town might win that award... Unfortunately, there has not been much of a life outside work - especially as I am now living in my own apartment, which is at the office. That's right. Its ...

Hey Witchdoctor, tell us the magic words...

... used black magic to give her the illness.

Before we even met her, Mulonde didn’t do herself any favours. Following our enquiry about consulting her, she gave us a grossly inflated quote of ZKw30,000 (roughly £6) each for the privilege, which prompted one of our party to give up on the idea altogether. “I was reluctant to pay her anything”, he scorned. “But that’s just ****ing ridiculous. She won’t get a penny out of me.”

Her ...

My welcome to Zambia....this a welcome?

June 14, 2005 Off to do volunteer work in Zambia with Hands At Work Africa with a team of 10. Ten people all of whom were strangers to each before the training started two months ago. I knew only one of them prior to that.
Although we left Canada late June 14 with the left of flights and the time change, we arrived early mornging June 16 in Lusaka. We had a stopover in London Heathrow where our team transferred from Air Canada to British Airways ...
