We stayed at Chobe Safari Lodge for two nights near the end of a 15-day trip encompassing Zimbabwe, Namibia, and Botswana. After the small tented camps and chalets, the Chobe Safari Lodge was a bit of a culture shock as it is more akin to a large hotel or resort when compared to the secluded, private accommodations in the bush. That said, the lodge is very pleasant and comfortable.

Set on the scenic Chobe River, the lodge has a large, open-air, thatch-roofed common and dining area as well as a swimming pool that guests can enjoy. We stayed in one of the river view rooms in the main hotel, but separate rondavels are also available. Our room was very spacious and clean, and we enjoyed the balcony overlooking the shady riverbank where we could watch vervets playing in the trees and on the rooftop.

I was concerned when I saw the enormity of the dining area and the buffet. So often, large-scale cooking is disappointing, but that was not the case. The selection of food was varied and well-prepared. We enjoyed all of the dishes including wild game, a great choice of cheeses, and very nice desserts. On one of the two evenings, a local group entertained diners with a great performance of traditional song and dance.

While at the lodge, we participated in one game drive and an evening river cruise. Both provided exceptional game viewing, but the river cruise was outstanding. Again, I was concerned when I saw the size of the boat and the number of people, but that all melted away after sighting upon sighting of elephants, hippos, birds and other wildlife. The sunset was absolutely spectacular.

If you prefer a more western style hotel, the Chobe Safari Lodge is a very nice accommodation offering good access to nearby Chobe Park and wonderful game viewing on the river.

This was a great spot to stay. Right on the River and we get Safaris by Car specifically designed and Boats also specifically set up. Food excellent here and the room very quaint with the nets over the bed etc.

This lodge is great because it has lots of facilities and activities on offer. The restaurant is great, and the curio shop is super. The family rooms are not so nice, especially not for teenage children. The one we had booked had absolutely no view of the river and was tucked well away from the rest of the lodge. The other family room had bunkbeds for the kids, which is really not ideal for teenagers, but at least we as the parents got a nice view of the river. I unfortunately had money stolen from my handbag in our room, even though the room had already been serviced. Always use the safe!!

We stayed here for one night only while being on an overland truck tour of the country. The lodge was quite exceptional, luxurious looking and succeeded in giving me quite satisfaction. The food was excellent and the views stunning. I highly recommend this place. My only regrets are not having stayed here longer due to our tour. Definitely a place to come back to. Thank you.

Sleeping again at chobe Safari lodge. Off with a bus to the Zimbabwe border, to visit Vic falls, not daring to bring our van into Zimbabwe. 125USD dropped at the border, and 2hrs later we made it into the country. The falls themselves were impressive, and the cool mist that rose up was refreshing during the walk along the falls, it was still stupid …

Today we had bit of a sleep in and a leisurely breakfast and bid farewell to Reiner, who was off back to Dortmund. A very interesting man, very well read and informed. This morning is a travel morning. Having packed most everything last night, we slept until 7am and then joined Linda and Joe for a 7 degC breakfast on the veranda at Green Tree Lodge. The hot tea and hot oatmeal helped to ward off the brisk air. We followed that with omelets and bacon this morning. Andrew exchanged a little US currency for some …
