Border of Chobe National Park, PO Box 10 Kasane, Botswana, 625-0336
3 days in northern Botswana plus a coupleof days in Zambia & Zimbabwue. Ventured into Zambia & Zimbabue to see Vic Falls before shooting off to Tanzania. 2 main things to see here as reflected in fotos below: Chobe National Park in Botswana - SAFARI via boat and land to see spectacular wildlife. (stayed at the really nice Chobe Safari Lodge in Kasane, Botswana). Saw: hippos, crocodiles, baboons, wort-hogs, impala, etc. Victoria Falls - at the border of Zibabwue and Zambia - its the wo...
Kasane, Botswana akbarChobe National Park is exactly what one would expect the planes of Africa to look like. Along side the Chobe River, the park is busstling with heards of elephants, impala, cape buffalo, hippos, giraffe, kudu and many other wild animals. We got to observe so many amazing animals in their natural habitat. We even booked a private safari ride to search only for the lions. We ended up packing a case of beer and loudly sped through the park following any possible lead. Thankfully, we were able to ...

Kasane, Botswana annamacSomehow we all manage to be up early this morning, although Dan and Lisa were feeling quite unwell. We set off at 9am as we had a long drive ahead of us, including the ferry crossing and the border crossing back into Botswana. The early start turned out to be a good decision as we waited over two hours for the ferry crossing, taking a big chunk out of our day. We arrived at the Chobe Lodge in the afternoon, which is a super posh lodge with a camping ground attached so we get to use all the ni...

This morning, we had no planned itinerary (hello lie in!) so we were able to choose what we wanted to do. As the truck was heading into town we decided to grab a ride and go to the internet cafe. As each cafe only had a couple of terminals, we ended up splitting up and Hilary, Lisa and I ended up walking almost all the way back to camp before finding a place with enough terminals (and which actually worked!). After spending an hour on the emails, we headed back to the lodge and decided t...
The plan today was, visit Katima Mulimo, the last big town in Caprivi, get money, because we're heading into Botswana again and not coming back to Namibia (and need visa money for the Zambian border), then cross into Botswana and head to Chobe National Park. The first problem was that, unbeknown to our guide (oddly) it turned out to be a Namibian public holiday (on a Wednesday, go figure), so all the banks were closed, which was a bit of a bugger really. I was OK because a had a stash of US d...
Kasane, Botswana grumpytravellerChobe Safari Lodge Our room is surprisingly large with sliding doors looking out to the Zambezi River. The brush by the river is thick enough to almost completey obscure the water but there are all kinds of warning signs to "Beware of Hippos". On occasion they have parked themselves on the lawns overnight although nothing that exciting happened during our stay. Right outside our room we can see Vervet monkeys frolicking in ths sun. Some wart hogs have found a leaky sprinkler head and love the...
Kasane, Botswana homheadAfter our morning elephant ride in Zimbabwe (see previous day's entry) we took our minibus transfer back to the Chobe Safari Lodge. We signed up for another 3 hour game drive from 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm. We saw the usual including giraffes, buffalo, and elephants. One group of elephants seemed to have some young males in their midst. After a while one seemed to tire of our presence and began to flap his ears at us. A loud trumpeting followed and he took off charging but not in our direction. It w...
Kasane, Botswana homheadSo it was off to the Botswana border where we had to get a pontoon ferry over the Chobe river. As the pontoon arrived, we noticed the captain of the boat having a scuffle with one of the passengers. As the boat docked, an army officer marched on with his M16 and right hooked the passenger in the head! We asked a Zambian guy what was going on and he told us that the guy was caught border smuggling, he only had 4 bottles of beer down his pants. Botswana was visibly richer as soon as we reached ...
