An unexpected twist

This is a time I'll never forget. I want to say it's been the best of times and it's been the worst of times, yet I have a sneaking suspicion someone has already coined that phrase. However in some ways, it's the best way to describe it. Although this may be old news to some of you, I'll still share...

Since the last post, my world has been riddled with pain, fear, confusion, frustration, helplessness and sorrow. I've had one of the most horrific experience I have ever had the ...

Not Enough Time in Nepal

... being in a valley. It’s probably the worst pollution we’ve encountered so far. A thing that we’ve come accustomed to in India is spitting (not us of course). I mean the locals will spit anywhere, oddly even in temples. You can’t wear your shoes, but a good old spit is fine. But in Kathmandu it’s a whole different level. You literally come across a huge oyster every 15 metres. Jandals weren’t the best option ha ha. But we figured why ...

High-end Tourism

... the resilient 3 (Tommy Jacqueline & I) make Durbar Square & all the old buildings of Central Kathmandu. The others lap up the hotel luxury. The Durbar Square area is fascinating.
Time for our Gurkha transfer to the airport & the VIP army lounge - Joanna Lumley was here - & the short flight to Pokhara.
More great views & propeller planes are quite safe I'm told. Meet up with Alex & Andy on way to wedding & the camp commander.

... down the street. He kept giving us the run around about the different modes of shipping, which we were well aware of, but when we got to price, he wanted to box all of our stuff up so he could calculate it. No Effing way. I know that trick, get all our stuff, get it in boxes, then we have to use you. I said “Best price for courier service” he said, “That is an excellent way to ship and will be there in 7 to ...

last post for a week!

... return before I leave Nepal.

I wish there was some way to convey the sounds and smells of Kathmandu. I sat back in the rickshaw and tried to think about how to explain it all. I took a few photos but they do not really portray the whole story. All I can say is that your ears are continually assaulted by the sound of engines revving, policeman blowing their whistles, but worst of all, by the shrill and persistent blare of car and motor bike horns. At the same time you are aware of the ...

Bloody run in with the law on the long road 2Nepal

... sh!t, but it is only more emphasised as coming into focus I see police badges on the bike and uniform. BANG! The slow motion jumps into fast forward as I fly off my bike and hope for the best. I finally find myself flat on my back looking up to the sky, which beauty and calmness contradicts the chaos that is down here. I lie on the ground for a few moments just trying to work out if that just happened, but then I hastily jump up because I can see my bike pouring out petrol and ...
