Walked to Matsumoto castle, an amazing old wooden castle, shoes off, and walked up the 6 levels. Some stairs were very steep, almost vertical. Beautiful manicured gardens. We had ice creams under the vine covered pergola, and then went to the Matsumoto city museum, small but interesting. All tired and hungry went to ...

It is difficult to explain what makes an area spectacular for hiking, but the views can be more easily understood: just look at the picture. One of my colleagues mentioned that his parents went to Kamikochi for their honeymoon and that makes perfect sense. It's like walking through a movie set. Every ten minutes or so you think 'Is this actually real?'. During the peak season ...

Spend around 4 nights in Matsumotta, used it as a base to do the Magome- Tsumago Trail, Kamikochi and the Wasabi farm

The hostel I stayed in, had a great escape plan, one route was the front door, the other through a window, unfortunately someone would need to cut back all the trees+ plans in order to have a quick escape :)
