    ... squeaked horribly and a leisurely walk for the next few hours around ponds, temples and some huge Taiwanese Red Cypress trees. The oldest one still standing is estimated to be over 2000 years old.
    We checked in at the hotel to find out that the only source of heat is a heating blanket. Hot water is only available between 6 pm and midnight. There are only disposable paper face clothes and paper bath towels. ...

    The owner took all the guests on a tour after dark to see fireflies. Words are inadequate to describe the spectacle of hundreds of blinking lights flying around and up the hill side. It looked like a giant Christmas tree with blinking lights. That was worth staying in the B&B just for the show

They hawked them everywhere - in fact we struggled to find a lunch which did not come in a box! We never explored the mystical goodness of the lunchbox however - we had ours on a plate.     spent saturday wandering Lukang. It was a crazy day of parades with all of the temples organizing groups dressed in various themes... tons of firecrackers. accomodation is super booked up, so have to move on to Chiayi in the evening as my hostel is booked out for a birthday. The hostel I want in Chiayi is also booked for a wedding so have to stay at another place and switch tomorrow.
