On the way, a nice lady approached us in regards to a private car to Alishan. $25 versus $65 after negotiating and the drive was an hour shorter each way (3 hours by bus and 2 hours by car-no stops). Softer seats and better air conditioning. I'm sure you all can tell which mode of transportation we chose.

We took a tourist van bac to ChiaYi. The driver is good and friendly. He is a good guide too. Along the journey to Chiayii, he introduces a lot of tourists locations in ChiaYi. We struggled to get up in the very early morning at 2.30am for the sunrise tour at Yushan (玉山, Jade Mountain). It was very cold, but not very misty, at 3am while waiting for the sunrise tour bus (日出观光॥ 2;士) in the main square. The clock tower indicated that the temperature was 11°C.
