Jiuzhaigou Valley is located in the northwest of Sichuan Province. Literally “Valley of Nine Villages” since there are nine Tibetan villages in this area. It’s known for its many multi-level waterfalls, colorful lakes and snow-capped peaks. It was inscribed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 1992 and a World Biosphere Reserve in 1997.

... de man eiste 500 Yuan (ong E 50; een hele hoop geld voor een chinees in de bergen) omdat de dames in zijn tuin hadden geplast! De buschauffeur is ongeveer een half uur bezig geweest de man te kalmeren, hij wilde zelfs een paar keer boos onze bus in stormen, uiteindelijk heeft hij hem 150 Yuan gegeven en konden we onze reis vervolgen.

Toch fijn dat er, na al deze avonturen, bij het uitstappen van de bus al weer iemand klaar staat met je naam ...

It was a long 14 hour bus ride to JiuZhaiGou from ChengDu but it was worth it. We drove through the region of Sichuan, which was hit by a major earthquake in 2008 and the damages were still highly apparent as if it had happened a few weeks ago. The fact that the region is mountainous obviously made it worse and in every village we passed through people where rebuilding houses and roads.
