九寨沟 - Jiuzhaigou - Nine village valley is named after the nine Tibetan villages that have lived inside the park for centuries, perhaps millenia. Naturally there are many Tibetan foods and souvenirs to buy. The best being Qing Ke Jiu, highland barley wine. One of the best locally made spirits I have had in Asia so far. As with all Tibetan places, there are many goods produced from yaks --- Yak ...

We started the day with a Tibetian breakfast, a bit exotic for me but tastefull. Then, we went to the park for almost the whole day. As the day before, it was AMAZING; especially the five-flowers lake & the beautiful pearl waterfall ! :) Also, we had a look at the bamboo lake, a setting for the movie "Hero". We did 2/3 of the park that day; with the 1/3 the day before, we completed the visit. In ...

We woke up at 3:50 AM to be on time for the flight to Jiu Zhai Gou, which is late (1 hour) due to bad weather conditions -.- Note on Jiu Zhai Gou: the majority of the population is Tibetian. The elevation ranges from 2000 m to 4500 m -> a mountain area which is rather cold. We arrived at the hotel around 12:30 (after a 90 min ride ...

... here is way more strict than any airport we have been through, and its only a small regional airport. Suitcases are searched, and we are both padded down. Never have i seen such security.

The flight to Chengdu is on time and takes 40 minutes. This airport is huge and it takes 10 minutes just to walk to the baggage collection. With bags in hand we board the bus to the city.
We now have to walk 1k to the bus station for the bus ...

... valley. Success! To avoid the crowds (much smaller here, but just as ear-piercingly loud), we took a path down toward a lake about 1.5 miles away. It was great to spend so much time in some beautiful nature with clean air & blue skies. Not something we've grown accustomed to in Asia, generally. Also, Kelly did a whole lot of exercising with little complaining. We tried to take as many out of the way paths as possible, only taking the bus back down when all paths were closed in a ...
