We started the day with a Tibetian breakfast, a bit exotic for me but tastefull. Then, we went to the park for almost the whole day. As the day before, it was AMAZING; especially the five-flowers lake & the beautiful pearl waterfall ! :) Also, we had a look at the bamboo lake, a setting for the movie "Hero". We did 2/3 of the park that day; with the 1/3 the day before, we completed the visit. In ...

The Jiuzhaigou airport is the highest in China, at an altitude of 3,300m. The taxi ride took us down 1,500m and was quite hair-raising at times but we were happy to be out of the city and in the mountains.

The Jiuzhaigou Lakes are famous for their magnificent colours and they didn't disappoint. We made sure we were at the national park at opening time to beat the crowds but it seems that in China this is not possible, as there were already thousands ...

Well, today, in the back of a Tibetan village inside the Jiuzhaigou National Park, I hear a "how ya goin'?" (apply Aussie accent here). Long story short, not only is this guy from Australia, he is from Epping, close enough to next door to my own suburb. He's actually been living in that village ...

... keep me warm. Woke up wide awake at 3am and looked at emails and read, finally falling back to sleep about 10 minutes before my alarm went off - isn't that always the case.....

Fortunately the rain more or less stopped by the time we left our overnight parking spot, at the side of a hotel next door to the town walls of Songpan.

So many coaches on the road, all coming the other way to us.

Jiuzhaigou National Park turned out to be a little out-of-the-way adventure. I was in the vicinity a week or so earlier in Langmusi when my plan was to go to Songpan, only a few short hours away from Jiuzhaigou, when fate decided otherwise. I didn’t want to miss out on the park though, which received many elegies form the guidebook, which is on the UNESCO world heritage list, and which receives around 2 million visitors a year. But from ...
