... at Wat Umong, it was located back towards Chiang Mai so back down the mountain we went. It was a very unusual temple featuring tunnels. The tunnels were supposedly built by the King, and painted with forest scenes so they could keep a famous, but mentally deranged monk, within the grounds of the monastery, apparently he had a habit of just wandering off into the forest for days on end. ... communication. I find that when I utter my "Lonely Planet" thai words, they are amused and then they try to speak the few English words they know, perhaps to shut me up. The other issue I have found remarkable in the people is their pride of their country and their reverence for the royalty. When they speak of King Bhumibol and Queen Sirikit, they refer to them as "My King" and "My Queen" rather that the king or queen.

The Tigers for example are extinct in Indonesia, Malaysia and less than 100 roam the jungles of India, Thailand and Burma.
