Now that we have been enjoying the benefits of regular employment we have spent some time in the past week or so exploring some more of Chiang Mai that requires a bit of money. First though, we do love our neighborhood. The area we live, around Wat Suan Dok, is a distinctly Thai neighborhood, where we see very few foreigners and are consistently surrounded by Thai neighbors eating Thai food and speaking Thai. They recommended a place about 100 metres up the road, so we ...

We would wait for a while before boarding a second bus to take us across the Mekong River to Laos immigration. About half four in the afternoon, and after parting with $31 USD we were in! It's actually only $30 USD for a Laos tourist visa. The extra dollar is an overtime charge for any arrivals after 16:00. If I were ...

Arriving into Chiang Mai in the afternoon we had the chance for a short break and then headed off mid afternoon for our Thai cooking class. We were picked up in a tuc tuc and firstly taken to a local fruit and vegetable market where we picked up some fresh ingredients for our cooking. We then went to the ladies home where the courtyard had been converted into the outdoor kitchen area. It was a really great afternoon and was definitely a cooking class rather ...
