Historical Traveler Reviews of Chester House Plymouth
Wonderful stay at the Chester House
from A TripAdvisor Member
We had the good fortune of staying at the Chester Guest House in early
April 2006 while on a trip to France and England from the United States.
Of all the places we stayed on our trip, we found the Chester Guest
House to be the most wonderful. Owners Dot and Andy offered the utmost
in hospitality to us. From the spotlessly clean rooms to the incredible
full English breakfast in the morning to the delicious tea and biscuits
that were in our room, everything was perfect. We found the guest house
to be conveniently located by the train station (within walking
distance). The taxi ride into town to the waterfront was very short
also. If we ever return to Plymouth, we will most definitely stay with
them again. We love Dot and Andy!

This was our 2nd visit to Chester and as expected was extremely good. Greeted by Hazel with a tray of tea and biscuits, very welcome after a long journey, we soon parked our car in the secure car park at the rear. Our room was spotless and comfortable even though facing the railway line, was quite and we slept soundly. Plymouth city centre is only a ten minute walk passing the railway station on the way, we felt OK walking by at night as the area is well lit. Whether you are an early or like us not so early riser, Dot and Andys breakfast is a feast the full works fills you for the day, or there is the healthy option for those not so hungry. In the interceding time from our last visit they are still working very hard redecorating and running the hotel to their high standard at the same time, we look forward to our next later this year.
A very excellent and traditional B&B
from DigitalDude2008
Two nights spent here in a very comfortable, clean and well furnished room. A very filling and well prepared breakfast served with a lovely sense of humour from the charming couple who run this excellent establishment. No problems with traffic noise. High security parking include free - a real plus in Plymouth. Well positioned within walking distance of the city. My only problem, why did I not find this place sooner as on previous visits to Plymouth I have been paying considerably more for a lot less in the Premier Travel Inn at Sutton Quay, Plymouth. The Trip Advsisor comments from other guests all proved very encouraging and I must use TA more when searching for a room.
Really is a home from Home

I have stayed in several `low cost` and indeed "high cost" hotels and B & B's during my time as a contractor. Several months ago I was introduced to Dot and Andy at Chester, and can honestly state that most of the others don't come close.
This really is a quiet and relaxing home from home. Dot and Andy have worked wonders with the quality of the rooms, each themed in a particular style or colour. My family recently joined me for a long weekend staying in the family room. They all loved it and can't wait to return.
My work as a contractor takes me in and out all hours and yet Dot is always prepared for an early breakfast and a refreshing cuppa.
Chester is extremely covenient for the city centre and everything around it. I park my car on the road rather than in their secure car park, and contrary to a recent review have never had any trouble or worries about security or noise.
If you are staying in Plymouth I doubt if you can find a better B & B, and certainly no better value for money. As noted by many, the breakfasts beat all superlatives....
Chester House Hotel, Plymouth - Brilliance & value
from A TripAdvisor Member
One of the most brilliant places I have ever stayed in! The proprieters are warm, welcoming and friendly and immediately make you feel 'at home'. Rooms are tastefully furnished and exceptionally clean and have tea and coffee making facilities (containing more tea bags or sachets of coffee than you will know what to do with!). Breakfasts are huge, with a great choice and with your requirements catered for - e.g. vegetarian.
The hotel is situated in a very convenient location close to the city centre which is easily accesible by foot - eg the University is only 10 mins away by foot and likewise the shops. Being a lone female traveller I felt completely safe in the area, walking back in the dark would have presented no worries for me. Additonally the hotel has the benefit of its own private parking area (which not all hotels, and from experience even some of the larger ones do not have.
I have been so impressed by this hotel that I have already booked to stay for my next two trips to Plymouth. Exceptional value for money!
Not as expected
from EsmeB
On the recommendation of Trip Advisor I stayed here and was sorely disappointed.
It is located in a poor part of Plymouth, right away from the city centre and I didnt feel safe walking along the street let alone leaving my car there.
It was noisy and near to the railway line which I could hear up until late at night.
The owners Dot and Andy were accomodating but overall was not up to scratch !! Will decline to stay there again
A real home-from-home

Dot and Andy are the most welcoming of hosts, and their imaculate, cosy 10 room B&B is a charming home-from-home. You are treated like an old friend from the time you arrive at the front door (via the well tended front garden thronging with flower-laden hanging baskets)until it's time to say a regretable goodbye. I shall be staying for my third visit in March 2006 and can genuinely recommend Chester House if you require accomodation in Plymouth. p.s. The breakfasts are legendary! Yum Yum!
Wonderful B&B!!

Dot and Andy were excellent and friendly hosts. The room was warm and cosy, with lovely bed linen. Fantastic large cooked breakfast, with choice of cereals or grapefruit segments. Fresh coffee. A very pleasurable stay. I would recommend to anyone!!
Homely feel

Having worked in Plymouth for the last two years I nedded a base to live when away from Glasgow and I chose well when I phoned Dot and Andy. They were not only very welcoming but also extremely accommodating. As my contract was extended month after month I was described as part of the family and they certainly made me feel as if I was. They did everything in thier power to make me feel welcome, the longer I stayed away from my own home, and I will never forget my stay there.

Dot and Andy are more than welcoming and accomodating. Using the guesthouse as a base for the ferry to and from Spain, they added smiles to our holidays beginning and end.
