... right on the dot of 10.02am. The carriage was 3/4 full. I was lucky enough to have a lovely man sit opposite me. His name was Gaudenz and he is 74. ( They have already planned to spend 2 weeks in Florence next May to celebrate his 75th birthday.) Gaudenz was a teacher and then worked in the Pharmaceutical Industry. He has travelled a lot but grew up around this area of Switzerland. As we passed through Bergun, he said how he used to teach there and ...

... Up ahead there is a mountain albergo which I figure I should check out. Last night was a bit chilly camping outside, and tonight I'm going to be at a much higher altitude. The albergo is, as expected, out of my price range--but tempting... Then the trail climbs... up... up... up zigzagging through the forest. Daylight will fade soon, so I pick up the pace, hoping ot make it to Campodolcino before nightfall, where hopefully I can find ...

Day 274 6 hrs, 13 kms According to Google Maps, it's not possible to create a walking map up across Splugenpass. I'm hoping that that's only because when Google Maps comes across a tunnel, they automatically assume that pedestrians aren't allowed through it. Hoping... But doing a little research I found that there's supposed to be a hiking trail up towards the pass. That would be perfect... if I can find it! I follow a rather pedestrian ...
