... National Historic Site. This site was just established two years ago. It memorializes the Cheyenne and Arapahoe Indians who were slaughtered by the US Army and a force of Colorado volunteers. After securing our passport stamp and chatting with the ranger, we walked the short trail overlooking the battlefield. We will have to return to this site in a few years to see how it develops.
Lamar, Colorado, United States 2jgstl... Judy one of the staff after I had a flat 10 miles into the ride. The landscape was vast expanses of farm lands quit a change from the rocky mountains. Tomorrow we will be in Kansas and another 100 mile plus day. Time to eat and then you guessed it early to bed and an early start to beat the afternoon storms.
Lamar, Colorado, United States bot989... than a few. The first night I was a little lax with my screen because the mosquitos didn't seem to be a problem, and I noticed a few more moths. The next morning I unfolded a chair that sat outside all night to find it covered - I mean COVERED - with moth's huddled inside. I thot, "that's odd". Then I found the same thing with a towel I had left out ...
Hasty, Colorado, United States winegalcj... to root out the natives to make the way for western expansion and profit for the "white man." Anyway, the Boot Hill museum and Old West stores/saloon is worth a visit if your in the area. The antique gun display is especially impressive and informative...even if you're not a member of the NRA. Found a great burger joint in Wichita. Spangles. They had ...
Lamar, Colorado, United States sbefera... especially the tour which was conducted by a a man in full period costume. He was brilliant and made the tour for us. It was very hot here so we had lunch in the cool van and then we left. Oh and the kids did another junior ranger badge and learned heaps. We didn't travel much further as it was already 3pm so we stopped in Lamar in another Walmart CarPark. We did our usual shopping for supplies and ...

Rush, Colorado, United States eyeride... the floor of the town gymnasium, which doubled up as a hostel, proved to be great fun. Just as we starting cooking outside the heavens opened and the lightening started. We gave up, and went to get a burger. At 'Wendy's' we went through the now familiar process of everyone in the restaurant asking us where we were from. Guesses ranged from California to Switzerland! With 220 ...
Eads, Colorado, United States eyeride... the nearest water source. As Galvin returned with bottles full of brown water, in rolled the car and lunch was consumed. The final 35 miles were supposed to be a doddle on the flats. That was the case, at least until the stinging dust clouds and wind found us; we discovered why these plains are also known as the Dust Bowl! Having battled through these obstacles we arrived ...
Eads, Colorado, United States eyeride... got a puncture. We saw a shaded picnic spot up ahead and got out of the sun to repair it. We got to Dumas having done 70 horrid miles. Since then it's been good again. We've been heading north to get out of the heat and decided to continue on up through Colorado. Hope you're all doing grand at home. P.S Dad, the bananas taste like bananas here! Talk soon. xx
Eads, Colorado, United States eoinandrosie... too. Wow, I really know nothing about New Mexico. Last night just before we went to bed we stopped in Kansas City, MO, literally a couple blocks (99% sure)_ from the hotel I stayed in while working on my degree project research. It was weird because I could have sworn I would never be back there again. On the platform we talked with a german woman about train accomodations, (I bet she was ranting in the woman's room in Chicago, although I bet it made a lot ...
