Village population 300

... to solve every problem that has existed throughout history. At times it gets hard being the only caucasian for miles and dealing with all the attention. My best friends are the village chiefs from around my area which use me as an inspirational speaker at local Baraza's (community meetings). At first it was very intimidating but now I really enjoy it and I think I can make a lasting impression on these peoples lives now the hard part is following through on expectations.

The veil was lifted and a 15 minute ceremony took place in which they fed each other to symbolise providing for each other in the future.

We then went outside for a 3rd breakfast (This was about 11am) of pilau rice and mandaazi and to listen to more singing from the women - the song was apparently referring to how the women were bored and the groom should hurry ...

Malindi

Malindi 23rd - 26th December 2006 I found this memoir in one of my journals: It's 12:30 on a Saturday afternoon and I'm lying under a 16 wheel, 10 ton truck, escaping from the scorching Kenyan midday sun. My weathered nose is peeling profusely and my body is not and wet (unfortunately not from a raunchy romp on the beach!). I'm en route to Malindi, after spending 5 days on the Lamu archipelago. The overloaded Tawakal bus continues to idle after an hour of ...

Bit of an announcement...

... ve decided to cut short this trip a few weeks and take up a 2 year contract in Digicel, Jamaica starting November the 1st. I've had numerous debates in my own head (and anyone else who would listen) with this since the offer was put to me in August, and even turned it down initially. I've had lots of negotiations with them asking them to wait until January but best I could get was a 1st of Nov start date with an ...

... and its all going great there too - even if I am old enough to be their mother. Apparently the 'maturer' volunteers are put into homestays.... there's really no kidding myself anymore is there... I'm teaching however about an hour up the coast in a small african village called Mtwapa. Its a really friendly place, fairly typically small african village with all that goes with that, and not a flushing toilet for miles. You pass what seems to be some ...

She has many great resources I have yet to look into. It finally rained. A delegation of Kenyan ministers of parliament died in a plane crash on their way to calm tribal war in northern Kenya. Politics is dangerous.
