Lilli and I woke up early (5:30) to get ready for the dive. Lilli was excited but nervous as she was not sure what she was in for. After a reasonable ride to Bophut and the pier, we met our instructor, Tak, who was very nice. We did the usual preliminaries and kitted up for the boat ride. As the water temperature was 29C, I elected not to use a wetsuit. We took a very lumpy boat ride which went like this.... Thud....thud....thud...BLAM....thud...t ...

... but sadly the boat was already preparing to leave :(.We got back to the hotel at 6pm exhausted! We spent a few hours at Chaweng beach which although was long and quite wide was massively busy and this is not even high season. The inflated taxis prices left the angry dane limping and swearing up the pier and his girlfriend embarrassed and alone sat on her bags. We ignored the 1000 baht taxi men and jumped in our own Songtheaw for the more agreeable 80baht pp and our hour long ride to Chaweng Beach. An hour long due to the grandad driving, the stops and detours, not the distance. Its around 30km. ...

... rocks, obviously it's dry season and it has all dried out either that or people here have a very different view of what a waterfall is. We continued driving the island and whist driving through the small road through what is pretty much jungle we come across something completely out of place and surreal. The Masons Arms, a full size, purpose built, English country pub. It had pub benches and small stream out the front it was quite literally like ...

... was at this early stage in the visit that we first heard Dum. Dum dum dum... The sound of 'Eye Of The Tiger' followed us around constantly during our stay. There was a huge Muay Thai fight that weekend, and the advertising campaign was limited to a series of trucks with huge speakers blasting out 'Eye Of The Tiger' and guys shouting out the names of the contenders through megaphones. They passed by continuously, night and day, every 15 minutes. On ...
